Within the space of three weeks, sports car fans have been thrilled by the lead in the manufacturers’ championship changing twice. Following two one-two victories in succession, Audi had taken the top spot in the standings at the season’s midpoint. Although the brand had to relinquish its lead in the race in Japan, it remains in striking distance of the leader of the standings. Now the World Championship decision is coming to a head, as the sixth of eight WEC races is on the agenda at Shanghai on November 2. The brand with the four rings is separated by merely eight points from leader of the standings Toyota in the manufacturers’ classification, while the brand’s advantage over the third-placed brand, Porsche, is 66 points. A total of 132 points are yet to be awarded until the finale. The WEC round in China has special significance for Audi for several reasons. The track is regarded as very challenging, the team achieved victory there last year, and the ‘Middle Kingdom’ has evolved into the largest sales market for AUDI AG. In China, the company delivered 415,704 automobiles between January and September – 16 percent more than a year ago. -
Press Release March 8, 2019
Press Release March 8, 2019 Preview, World Endurance Championship WEC, round 6 in Sebring/USA Porsche aims for victory at the FIA WEC’s return to Sebring Stuttgart. Porsche tackles the first Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC race at Sebring since 2012 as the points’ leader. After five of the season’s eight rounds, the works team with its two ca. 510 hp Porsche 911 RSR ranks first in the manufactur- ers’, drivers’ and team categories. Three customer squads field four other identical vehicle models in the GTE-Am category. With the WEC held as a joint event alongside the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship from March 13-16, a total of eight Porsche 911 RSR vehicles will be competing on the legendary Sebring circuit. The race Sebring has hosted the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC only once since the launch of the series. In 2012, works drivers Marc Lieb (Germany), Richard Lietz (Austria) and Patrick Pilet (France) finished in second place. In the long history of endurance racing at Sebring, Porsche is by far the most successful manufacturer, with a total of 18 overall victories going to the marque from Weissach. The most recent victory was in 2008 thanks to Timo Bernhard (Germany), Romain Dumas (France) and Emmanuel Collard (France) at the wheel of a Porsche RS Spyder. The Porsche GT Team drivers Richard Lietz (Austria) and Gianmaria Bruni (Italy) tackle the 1,000-mile race (or eight hours) with the No. 91 Porsche 911 RSR car. The pair achieved second place at the Shanghai round of the 2018/2019 Super Season. -
Toyota Gazoo Racing Wins Le Mans
Toyota Gazoo Racing Wins Le Mans June 17, 2018 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing wins the 86th Le Mans 24 Hours, taking an historic first victory at its 20th attempt. Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Fernando Alonso in the #8 TS050 HYBRID started from pole position and took the chequered flag after 388 tense and often dramatic laps at the Circuit de La Sarthe to extend their lead in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López, who led for long periods in the #7 TS050 HYBRID, made it a perfect result for TOYOTA with second place in front of 256,900 fans. TOYOTA, which had entered 47 cars at Le Mans prior to this weekend’s race and finished on the podium six times, becomes only the second Japanese manufacturer to win at La Sarthe, while Kazuki is the first Japanese driver to win in a Japanese car. The result is a culmination of intense and determined efforts by TOYOTA GAZOO Racing colleagues from Higashi-Fuji and Cologne to continually enhance its hybrid-electric technology, which won this weekend’s race using 35% less fuel than in 2012, when it returned to endurance racing. The two TS050 HYBRIDs were evenly matched throughout the 5,286km and swapped places several times during a race which featured its share of drama for the leaders. Two stop-go penalties for the #8 car, compared to one for the sister car, required an impressive night time stint from Fernando to come back into contention on a day when all drivers performed exceptionally in a high- pressure environment. -
Brendon Hartley (NZ)
www.porscheroadandrace.com Brendon Hartley (NZ) Published: 14th February 2018 By: Glen Smale Online version: https://www.porscheroadandrace.com/brendon-hartley-nz/ Born: 10th November 1989 Where: Palmerston North, New Zealand Lives: Monaco Height/weight: 1.84 m/65 kg Hobbies: Playing the guitar, fitness, poker, squash, tennis, mountain biking When he first turned up in the Formula 1 paddock back in 2008, he looked more like an aspiring rock star with his blond hair and baggy jeans, than a test driver. He can actually play the guitar, but he prefers to leave the live performance to someone else. Behind the cool exterior was a shy young man, and despite being just 19, but already had 13 Brendon Hartley, Porsche years of experience as a racing driver. He started with go- works driver, Le Mans 24H, karts at the age of six, inspired by his father Bryan, who 2016 drove in various racing series. Brendon’s older brother Nelson, named after Nelson Piquet, was already ten when Brendon was allowed to join him for the first time. His older brother was faster, and Brendon still remembers the sleepless night that followed. “That was when I realised that I can’t lose. I want to win, in everything I do.” After a series of wins in Formula Ford and further successes it was soon evident that he had the talent to make a career of it, but lived at the wrong end of the world. At the age of 16 he jumped in at the deep end and headed for Europe. -

Porsche and Michelin Clinch the Season's FIA WEC Drivers' Crown
MEDIA INFORMATION November 21, 2015 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) 6 Hours of Bahrain Porsche and Michelin clinch the season’s FIA WEC Drivers’ crown and LM GTE Cups in Bahrain to add to their 2015 Manufacturers’ title The 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) concluded with Michelin’s partner Porsche claiming the top prizes in both the LM P1 and LM GTE Pro classes. Following its return to world class endurance racing in 2014, the Stuttgart brand emerged as the discipline’s team to beat this season despite year-long pressure from fellow Michelin runners Audi (in LM P1) and Ferrari (in LM GTE Pro). By providing tyres developed to meet the specific needs of its different manufacturer teams in this championship which permits open competition between tyre firms, Michelin enabled all of its partners and drivers to fight at the sharp end in the course of the 2015 season. “I would like to congratulate Porsche on its different titles and I am proud of the role Michelin played in its success,” said Michelin Motorsport Director Pascal Couasnon. “We work closely with all of our partners and we were at their side throughout this year’s FIA WEC which was of an extremely high level in both sporting and technological terms. It’s important to remember that this year’s cars marked a big step forward, especially the LM P1 prototypes which boasted power outputs and aerodynamic downforce of an unprecedented level.” The performance, durability and versatility of Michelin’s 2015 range of endurance racing tyres were illustrated by the high grip they delivered in cold weather at Silverstone and Spa, the quadruple-plus stints they permitted in LM P1 at Le Mans, their consistency and also their ability to double stint at the season’s most exacting circuits in high temperatures. -
Press Release October 31, 2016 No
Press Release October 31, 2016 No. M 220/16 FIA World Endurance Championship WEC, LMP1, Round 8, Shanghai (China), Preview Match point for Porsche in the fight for the manufacturers’ championship Stuttgart. On November 6 the FIA World Endurance Championship is having its eighth and, at the same time, penultimate round of the 2016 season. One year ago in Shang- hai Porsche celebrated an early win in the manufacturers’ world championship. Noth- ing less than the defence of this title is the target for this year’s six-hour race at the Chinese Formula One circuit. So far this season the Porsche Team has achieved five race wins with its two 919 Hybrids and leads the manufacturers’ world championship with 263 points ahead of Audi (204) and Toyota (174). With the current advantage being 59 points, the team could start partying if the gap was at least 44 points after six hours of racing. We very much regret the loss of Audi as a great competitor from the 2017 WEC season on. Porsche will compete in the entire 2017 WEC season as planned. So far Porsche has derived a huge benefit in terms of knowledge and innovations for production cars from the LMP1 programme – this applies in particular to the 24-hour race at Le Mans. To be too relaxed in this year`s fight for the championship would be wrong, warned Fritz Enzinger. The Vice President LMP1 points to last year’s experience: “At the final race in Bahrain in 2015, it was the drivers’ title that seemed fairly easy to get.
