Republic of the Philippines Department of Education DepEd Complex, Meralco Avenue Pasig City K to 12 Curriculum Guide ART (Grade 1 to Grade 10) May 2016 K to 12 BASIC EDUCATION CURRICULUM CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK Both the Music and the Arts curricula focus on the learner as recipient of the knowledge, skills, and values necessary for artistic expression and cultural literacy. The design of the curricula is student-centered, based on spiral progression of processes, concepts and skills and grounded in performance- based learning. Thus, the learner is empowered, through active involvement and participation, to effectively correlate music and art to the development of his/her own cultural identity and the expansion of his/her vision of the world. As Music and Arts are performance-based disciplines, effective learning occurs through active experience, participation, and performance, creative expression, aesthetic valuation, critical response, and interpretation. The skills that are developed include reading/analyzing, listening/observing, performing, (singing, using musical instruments, movement, acting, and playing, using different art materials, techniques and processes, responding, composing, and creating. • The Philippines: Prospects in Business and the Arts
THE PHILIPPINES: PROSPECTS IN BUSINESS AND ARTS Sponsored by the Philippine Cultural Society (Singapore) In cooperation with Philippine Airlines. 26 TH October 2002, Hilton Hotel I am really happy to be here this afternoon with all my kababayans. I know you will be given a lot of talk about investment opportunities but I like to talk about some smaller investments that you might be interested namely Filipino artists. I can guarantee you that these investments will give you less risk, more enjoyment and the investment amount is very small. I am talking about investing in paintings specifically paintings by Filipino artists. I would like to show you some of the slides of our artists and as much as I would like to show many artists, I am afraid with the short notice and the time constraints, I am limited to what I have that is available. INTRODUCTION For me art is very personal and being brought up in the Philippines, living in the United States and Southeast Asian countries I have witnessed and interacted with many of our artists who are either visiting or working abroad. My views on the subject are probably very different from the rest of the panelists as I categorized the artists in a way that maybe different from academics and art critics. As you may have noticed, we have a great diversity when it comes to art as we have many different groups with many different influences. I am proud to say that we are rich when it comes to art and 1 that we, probably, have as many artists as we have islands in the Philippines.

FRIS SON: The Collected Criticism of Alice Guillermo Reviewing Current Art | 23 The Social Form of Art | 4 Patrick D. Flores Abstract and/or Figurative: A Wrong Choice | 9 SON: Assessing Alice G. Guillermo a Corpus | 115 Annotating Alice: A Biography from Her Bibliography | 16 Roberto G. Paulino Rendering Culture Political | 161 Timeline | 237 Acknowledgment | 241 Biographies | 242 PCAN | 243 Broadening the Public Sphere of Art | 191 FRISSON The Social Form of Art by Patrick D. Flores The criticism of Alice Guillermo presents an instance in which the encounter of the work of art resists a series of possible alienations even as it profoundly acknowledges the integrity of distinct form. The critic in this situation attentively dwells on the material of this form so that she may be able to explicate the ecology and the sociality without which it cannot concretize. The work of art, therefore, becomes the work of the world, extensively and deeply conceived. Such present-ness is vital as the critic faces the work in the world and tries to ramify that world beyond what is before her. This is one alienation that is calibrated. The work of art transpiring in the world becomes the work of the critic who lets it matter in language, freights it and leavens it with presence so that human potential unerringly turns plastic, or better still, animate: Against the cold stone, tomblike and silent, are the living glances, supplicating, questioning, challenging, or speaking—the eyes quick with feeling or the movements of thought, the mouths delicately shaping speech, the expressive gestures, and the bodies in their postures determined by the conditions of work and social circumstance.

  • Press Release
Press Release October 2019 Painting a tale of two nations – an art showcase about eco-imbalance Bank of China Manila, in partnership with the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (MET), the Chinese Culture and Art Association, and the China Daily Asia Pacific, is spearheading a cultural exchange program and art exhibit as part of its efforts to bridge business between the Philippines and China. After the economic ties between China and Philippines developed quickly over the past years, cultural exchanges need to be intensified. Communication helps countries to develop their relationships and enhance people to people understanding and connectivity. But real communication starts from cultural exchange. “Bank of China is in the business of trust, and creating an environment where counterparties understand each other better also creates an environment that's good for business,” said Deng Jun, Country Head of Bank of China Manila. “The cultural exchange program is our way of nurturing the trust between the Philippines and China. We hope that through this endeavor, our two countries will realize that they have so much in common despite their apparent differences.” According to China Daily Asia Pacific’s Editor-in-Chief, Zhou Li, this year's program is the best one yet, as it features a two-way exchange. "Previously, we took Chinese artists to other nations. But this year, we have artists from two countries, so they have chances to experience other cultures," he said. Under the program, the Bank has initiated an international art exhibition with an environmental theme inspired by the shared concern of both countries for the protection and preservation of nature.

Downloaded by [New York University] at 03:58 14 August 2016 VICARIOUS TRAUMA AND DISASTER MENTAL HEALTH Vicarious Trauma and Disaster Mental Health focuses on the clinician and the impact of working with disaster survivors. Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, mass shoot- ings, terrorism and other large-scale catastrophic events have increased in the last decade and disaster resilience has become a national imperative. This book explores vicarious traumatization in mental health providers who respond to mas- sive disasters by choice or by circumstance. What happens when clinicians share the trauma and vulnerability from the toll taken by a disaster with the victims they care for? How can clinicians increase resilience from disaster exposure and pro- vide mental health services effectively? Vicarious Trauma and Disaster Mental Health offers insight and analysis of the research and theory behind vicarious trauma and compares and contrasts with other work-impact concepts such as burnout, compassion fatigue and secondary traumatic stress. It proposes practical evidence- informed personal strategies and organizational approaches that address five cog- nitive schemas (safety, esteem, trust, control and intimacy) disrupted in vicarious trauma. With an emphasis on the psychological health and safety of mental health providers in the post-disaster workplace, this book represents a shift in perspective and provides a framework for the promotion of worker resilience in the standard Downloaded by [New York University] at 03:58 14 August 2016 of practice in disaster management. • Laguna | Paete Woodcarving Capital and Its Masters | Ironwulf En Route by Ferdz
ironwulf.net Laguna | Paete Woodcarving Capital and its Masters | Ironwulf En Route By Ferdz Paloy Cagayat at his workshop in Paete There’s a distinctive smell of wood amidst the mixture of paint and thinner lingering in the air. I could hear the constant pounding of multiple mallets on chisels carving away pieces of wood to make form to an otherwise large piece of wood. Occasional sawdust fills the air when sudden gust of wind blows through this open air wood carving workshop. Paete Woodcarving has been a thriving industry since the Spanish era until now. A walk at the town’s market road, it is hard not to notice the rows of shops, selling variety of wood work and paper mache. This crafty town of Paete, north-east of Laguna have earned its declaration as the Woodcarving Capital of the Philippines back in 2005. Thanks to proud Paetenians whose generations of wood carvers passed their skills and dedication for elevating the art. Here we meet some of the master woodcarvers that have etched their legacy in the town’s history. A young woodcarver working meticulously Paete Woodcarving The Paete Woodcarving tradition runs deep in history, dating back in the pre-Spanish era. Even the town’s name, Paete, goes away from the Spanish colonizer’s norms of naming places after saints. It was a result of a misunderstanding between a native and a Franciscan priest. When asked what the place was, the native replied, Paete, referring to his chisel. He thought the priest was asking about the tool he was using.
