Excellent bookBy Mathew L. MorrisonI'm very passionate about cooking, and Desperate Housewives is my favorite show hands down. I really enjoy thi book; so far the recipes I have made were sucesses and the ones I have not tried look good. Susan's macaroni and cheese was a huge hit at a barbeque I attended, it went in 10 minutes and I was lucky to have gotten a serving for myself. The only problem for me is that this cookbook is not made with college students on budget in mind; I'm desperate to make Bree's Basil Puree, but have yet to get enough basil to make it...I"m getting there though. Excellent addition to any cook's collection. Now I'm ready to have a volume two in this collection, a few things could include Katherine Mayfair' brioche, lemon pie, and her baking. Bob and Lee could be included with recipes for cocktails, and Angie Bolen's Italian family recipes would also be a great addition to the cookbook. There are other characters, such as Betty Applewhite and Gloria Hodge who could 'contribute' to a possible book. And as always, Bree, being my favorite character, would have another huge section to herself. We can only hope.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Cook BookBy MenniesI bought this cookbook because my boyfriend and I were so addicted to watching "Desperate Housewives" and was sad to see it finally end. But as the saying goes, "all good things must come to an end." Thus my boyfriend, "Buck," loves to use this cookbook. He had to make one of Edie Britt's recipes the first day he received the cookbook. "Buck" made the "Oysters Poached in Champagne Cream." It was delicious!! The recipes are fairly simple but extravagant at times, according to "Buck." Sometimes "Buck" takes the cookbook to the grocery store. Therefore, I'm looking forward to "Buck" using the cookbook again and again. If you purchase this cookbook, I don't think you will be disappointed.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Something to please even the pickiest palate!By Stephen DumontFirst off I have to say that I love the Housewives, so I had to get this book to finish my collection of memorabilia. I never actually thought I would be cooking any of the dishes, but I tried some. Bree's Muffins and Corn Chowder are to die for. The Lobster Risotto was very good too. The Tomato Bisque is next on my list of things to make. As I glance through the book I see alot of different styles of food. Even the pickiest eater should be able to find something that they will thoroughly enjoy. All in all, for the price and just for the novelty of this book, its worth it. Get it and try some recipes out, you will be pretty impressed. Spicy. Sweet. Tasty. Tart. No . were not talking about the lovely ladies of Wisteria Lane, but their cooking. Bree, Susan, Lynette, and Gabrielle may not be traditional housewives, but they do have their special talents in the kitchen. In The Desperate Housewives Cookbook, they share those recipes . and so much more!Tune in to ABC's monster hit Desperate Housewives on any given Sunday night, and youll salivate over everything from Bree's ber-gourmet repasts to Susan's what's-a-spatula simple suppers. They may have wildly different personalities and story lines, but if there's one thing the four heroines have in common, it's food. In The Desperate Housewives Cookbook, the show's millions of fans will find recipes for all the foods made famous by the show, as well as many others inspired by each housewife. For example:-Bree's elegant, impressive dinners feature dishes like Basil Pure Soup, Braised Duck, and Chicken Cutlets Saltimbocca.-Lynette's time-challenged lifestyle leads to quick, healthy, everyday fare like French Toast for Breakfast (or Dinner) with Blueberry Syrup; Warm Turkey, Muenster, and Coleslaw Wraps; and Potato Casserole.- Susan's lack of kitchen skills means that her dishes are of the couldnt-be-simpler (but still mouthwatering) variety, like a Salad of Roasted Peppers, Fresh Mozzarella, and Arugula; Foolproof Macaroni and Cheese; Chocolate Butterscotch Bars; and Garlic Mashed Potatoes.-Gabrielle enjoys the finest things in life -- and food is no exception. Her meals are gourmet, and most definitely prepared by a personal chef. Her faves include Shrimp with Chorizo and Red Pepper, Guacamole with Warm Chips, and Pineapple-Peach Smoothies.-Edie uses food for seduction as much as for sustenance. Her sensual favorites include Oysters Poached in Champagne and Cream, Sausage Puttanesca, and Ambrosia..

ABSTRACT According to Carole Counihan, «food is a prism that absorbs and reflects a host of cultural phenomena». Around a core character of Desperate Housewives, Bree Van de Kamp, this essay explores how identities and meals are born and re-born but fused and confused are turning out into a melting pot of cultures LA CULTURA E IDENTIDAD COMIDA DE LAS GÉNERO, COCINAS: within the suburban area of Wisteria Lane. There is an attempt to question whatever is old-established and inherited whilst coping with a diversity of hard digestion in as much as the U.S.A.

Within this essay, Nicholson and Fraser largely disavow a number of second wave feminist theories due to their essentialist and foundationalist underpinnings in favor of a set of postmodernist frameworks that might help feminist theorists overcome these epistemological impediments.

  • Superwoman Vs the Desperate Housewife”
Exemplar for internal assessment resource English for Achievement Standard 91475 Superwoman vs The Desperate Housewife” "Desperate Housewives" aren’t just found on Wisteria Lane in Television City. They can be found in every walk of life as the result of social change over the last four decades. Forty years ago feminism was at a peak. Frustrated, bitter women wanted all the same rights as men, including being able to go out into the workforce instead of being slotted into the role of traditional housewife. Early feminists, Betty Friedan, Gloria Steinem, and New Zealander Sue “its not your penis we envy - it’s your freedom,” Kedgley paved the way for new generations of women, making them believe that they could be Superwoman and have it all, run a household, look after their children, spend time with their hubby and friends as well as have a successful career. But some would say this just set women up for a fall in the future. And they’re right. Today, more and more women are deciding that while it is possible to juggle all these factors, it‘s simply too difficult. Being Superwoman doesn’t mean that women achieve at a super high level across the board, impressing everyone with their “amazing powers” with a quick flick of their red cape and toss of their tiara topped hair. No, it means difficult choices have to be made: women can’t neglect their children but they can’t neglect their job either, not if they want that promotion. Guilt comes naturally to women. If they aren't being 'Superwoman', they feel guilty.
