Masterplan Curriculum 2021 Master Plan 2021 Curriculum Master Plan 2021 The Essence of Yoga This is your curriculum for the Master Plan 2021 - The Essence of Yoga. Throughout the year we will move through the Four Pillars together to explore the Eight Limbed Path of Yoga. This exploration will be both based in practice and self-reflection. Each month with the New Moon we share a new practice with you, going along with the current theme and tuning into the energy of the moment. Each New Moon is a moment to set our intentions together before we start a new Sadhana the next morning. Besides the guided Sadhanas (daily guidance emails) each of the four pillars comes with an extra online Masterclass, a 2,5 hour online workshop that adds to your progress and transformation. FOUR PILLARS • LIFESTYLE / January - April • PRACTICE / May - July • MIND / August - October • REALISATION / November - December Pillar 1 Yogic Lifestyle January / February / March / April 2021 01 Yogic Lifestyle Exploring the Yamas & Niyamas In the first four months we set the foundation for the whole year and we work on purifying our body, mind and soul. We kick of the new year by breaking habits that are not supporting us any longer and you will receive daily guidance to support you with that during the first Sadhana that is linked to the first limb of the Eightfold path, Yama (integrity), specifically ahimsa (non violence), asteya (non stealing), brahmacharya (moderation) and aparigraha (non attachment). During our second Sadhana we focus on satya which is all about being truthful. After this we dive deeper into the second limb named Niyamas (positive actions) with a physical detox in which we explore saucha (cleanliness of body & mind), santosha (contentment) and tapas (self discipline). We end the first pillar of Yogic Lifestyle with a Sadhana that revolves around Svadyana (Study of the Self). After this Sadhana you will have deeply explored the first two limbs of the Eightfold Path, the Yamas & Niyamas. Sadhanas • Breaking Habits / 14 January - 4 February (22 days) • Speak your Truth / 12 February - 5 March (22 days) • Detox / 14 - 21 March - 4 April (22 days) • Know thyself and be you / 13 - 23 April (11 days) Masterclass • Sunday 25th of April 2021 Pillar 2 Practice May/ June / July 2021 02 Practice Exploring Asana & Pranayam In the second pillar we explore the third and the fourth limbs Asana & Pranayam with three Sadhanas, starting with a Sadhana focussing on the main asanas we use in Kundalini Yoga and other specific practices we use such as bandhas and mudras. In the second Sadhana we dive deep into the practice of pranayama, the fourth limb and we conclude this pillar with a Sadhana in which we learn from the ancient wisdom teachings of yoga philosophy. Sadhanas • Essential Asanas of Kundalini Yoga / 12 - 22 May (11 days) • Exploring Pranayama / 11 - 21 June (11 days) • Yoga philosophy / 11 - 21 July (11 days) Masterclass • Sunday 25th of July 2021 Pillar 3 Mind August / September / October 2021 03 Mind Exploring Pratyahara & Dharana After completing the first two pillars and four of limbs (Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama) we are now ready to proceed into the more subtle realm of mind. We start with understanding more about the workings of the mind through the lens of Ayurveda and we draw our focus within, which is limb number five Pratyahara. As this is an important turning point on the path of yoga we also dedicated the second Sadhana of the pillar to Pratyahara (withdrawal of the senses). We end this part of the journey by increasing our capacity for one pointed concentration, the 6th limb named Dharana. Sadhanas • Understanding the mind through the lens of Ayurveda / 9 - 19 August (11 days) • Withdrawal of the Senses / 8 - 18 September (11 days) • One pointed Concentration / 7 - 17 October (11 days) Masterclass • Sunday 24th of October 2021 Pillar 4 Realisation November / December 2021 04 Realisation Exploring Dhyana & Samadhi After all the preliminary work in the first three pillars we now enter the realm where our minds will most probably be much calmer and you can deeper into your meditation practice and experience an uninterrupted flow of concentration named Dhyana and feel the bliss of your existence, Samadhi. This last pillar we commit to a 40 day Sadhana as a deep integration of your process over the past year and we dedicate it to Self-Realisation as we explore the last two limbs Dhyana and Samadhi. SHANNAHOFF-KHALSA ABSTRACT The ancient system of Kundalini yoga includes a vast array of meditation techniques and many were dis- covered to be specific for treating the psychiatric disorders as we know them today. One such technique was found to be specific for treating obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), the fourth most common psychiatric disorder, and the tenth most disabling disorder worldwide. Two published clinical trials are described here for treating OCD using a specific Kundalini yoga protocol. This OCD protocol also includes techniques that are useful for a wide range of anxiety disorders, as well as a technique specific for learning to manage fear, one for tranquilizing an angry mind, one for meeting mental challenges, and one for turning negative thoughts into positive thoughts. Part of that protocol is included here and published in detail elsewhere. In addition, a num- ber of other disorder-specific meditation techniques are included here to help bring these tools to the attention of the medical and scientific community. These techniques are specific for phobias, addictive and substance abuse disorders, major depressive disorders, dyslexia, grief, insomnia and other sleep disorders.     Har Aerobic Kriya p.1 This set should be done very quickly and in a fluid motion, moving from exercise to exercise with no stopping. When done properly it is a great aerobic workout. Repeat the sequence 5 times. 1) Standing with feet comfortably apart, clap your hands over your head 8 times. Each time you clap, chant Har with the tip of your tongue. 2) Bend over from the hips. Slap the ground hard with the hands 8 times. With each pat, chant Har with the tip of your tongue. 3) Stand up straight up with arms out to the sides parallel to the ground. Raise and lower the arms, patting the air, one foot up and one foot below the shoulder height, as you chant Har with the tip of the tongue. 8 times. 4) Still standing, jump and criss-cross the arms and legs chanting Har, both as the arms and legs cross and when they are out at the sides for a total of 8 chants of Har.     Kundalini Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning either "coiled up" or "coiling like a snake." There are a number of other translations of the term usually emphasizing a more serpent nature to the word - e.g. 'serpent power'. The caduceus symbol of coiling snakes is thought to be an ancient symbolic representation of Kundalini physiology. The concept of Kundalini comes from yogic philosophy of ancient India and refers to the mothering intelligence behind yogic awakening and spiritual maturation. It might be regarded by yogis as a sort of deity, hence the occasional capitalization of the term. Within a western frame of understanding it is often associated with the practice of contemplative or religious practices that might induce an altered state of consciousness, either brought about spontaneously, through a type of yoga, through psychedelic drugs, or through a near-death experience. According to the yogic tradition Kundalini is curled up in the back part of the root chakra in three and one-half turns around the sacrum. Yogic phenomenology states that kundalini awakening is associated with the appearance of bio-energetic phenomena that are said to be experienced somatically by the yogi. This appearance is also referred to as "pranic awakening". Prana is interpreted as the vital, life-sustaining force in the body. Uplifted, or intensified life-energy is called pranotthana and is supposed to originate from an apparent reservoir of subtle bio-energy at the base of the spine. This energy is also interpreted as a vibrational phenomena that initiates a period, or a process of vibrational spiritual development. The source text for the concept of kundalini is the "Hatha Yoga Pradipika" written by Swami Svatmarama (English translation, 1992) somewhere between the twelfth and fifteenth centuries.
