2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship
2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2021 Canadian Mixed Doubles Curling Championship (CMDCC) qualification process has been modified. The 2021 CMDCC will be a thirty-five (35) team event with five (5) pools of seven (7) teams competing in individual round robins. Following these five round robins, twelve (12) teams will then advance to the playoff round. The championship team will advance to the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship, at a date and place TBD. The 35 team Championship field was determined as follows: • 14 teams as selected by their respective Provincial or Territory Associations. • 14 teams from the CMDR based on points accumulated from March 15, 2019 to March 15, 2020. 1 Teams must have played in a minimum of two mixed doubles events during this time frame. Whether it is called stubbornness, perseverance or determination, the common thread is that these are some of the traits that make up the elite athletes that prosper on a world stage. Such was the case of Saskatchewan-born Olympic bronze medalist Mark McMorris who was joined by eighteen other Saskatchewan athletes attending the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia. The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) proudly congratulates these strong role models and we look forward to seeing many of this group as inductees in the future. The SSHF certainly had the Olympic Spirit and our featured exhibit entitled The Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games (presented by McDougall Gauley) enjoyed an extended run based on its popularity. This well- received exhibit celebrated Saskatchewan’s 2014 Olympic and Paralympic participants against a backdrop of memorabilia dating back to 1924. Furthermore, visitors to the SSHF enjoyed studying donations from speed skating Olympian, Lucas Makowsky, to a snowboarding display from the aforementioned Mark McMorris. This hybrid display of the historical and the current drew significant numbers to the SSHF and we are happy to report that many of these visitors were skewed younger. We were pleased to note that our young visitors truly appreciated the significance of Saskatchewan athletes at the Winter Olympic and Paralympic games.
