Your dedication to our sport and to CURLSASK has made this last year as president enjoyable. I would like to thank our staff for their dedication and hard work serving our clubs and athletes throughout the year. The year has not been without its challenges with COVID-19 changing the way we think and conduct business, ending our curling season early and postponing aspirations of wearing the Green Saskatchewan Jacket. As we look to 2020- 2021 we will adjust to our changing world. CURLSASK will continue to work with our Member Clubs and Athletes to make it a memorable one. CURLSASK will continue the review of our competitions to ensure they are sustainable into the future. This review will seek to meet the delicate balance of all stakeholder needs; athletes, coaches, umpires, hosts and curling fans, to have fair competitions that are economically viable and produce our best teams to compete at the next level. CURLSASK is proud of changes we have seen this year with the Joint Women’s and Mens Provincial, the change of format for the Junior 2020- 2021 has some exciting plans in the works! To our volunteers, we could not be successful without you! Thank you to those who have, and continue to, give of their time and expertise for the hopes and dreams of others. Many thanks to all the volunteers from the many communities that hosted our playdowns. You are greatly appreciated for your time and efforts and I hope it was a rewarding experience for you and all your local sponsors. I am particularly proud of CURLSASK’s engagement at the national level with Curling Canada, CURLSASK continues to be a leader in the development and governance of the sport of curling. In 2019-2020 CURLSASK continues to have a voice at the National Level with our partners at Curling Canada, we will continue working to be the best National Sports Governing Body. Congratulations to all our provincial champions who won the honour to represent Saskatchewan at National championships, with Saskatchewan’s great curling tradition you should all be proud of your accomplishments. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve as president in 2019-2020. The globe pandemic brought to the 2019-2020 season to an abrupt halt. This will undoubtedly change the future of our sport. We are working hard to make the upcoming season run smoothly for our member clubs and player members. This season was marked with incredible losses within our curling community; we continue to mourn the loss of many influential curlers and friends. Notably, Chief Umpire Deanna Rindal, Athletes; Aly Jenkins and Joan Stricker and Legends; Carol Christopher and Ted Phenix. As we mourn these and other losses, we will launch two bursaries in the name of Aly Jenkins and Joan Stricker to honour these outstanding women and to support young curlers in Saskatchewan. Our team welcomed a familiar face, Bruce Korte to the CURLSASK Team. He joins the team in a new role of Event Manager. Bruce has been an elite curler for decades. His passion for the sport, knowledge and experience make him the perfect fit for this role. He understands the small details that make a big impact on Championship events. With one season under his belt, Bruce has exciting aspirations to make our competitions bigger and better in the seasons to come! I am beyond proud of the work of our CURLSASK Team. Although Mat Ring, Marketing and Membership Coordinator moved on to bigger and better things. He leaves the organization stronger than when he joined us and we know his work will have an impact on curling for generations to come. I would like to thank Mat for his hard work, his passion and his friendship over the past four seasons. Dan Selke, Membership Coordinator was able to secure 4 brand new affiliated clubs and 7 new associate members. His work has helped to slow the decline of member clubs and dramatically increase the MAP payments to member clubs. Kellyn Geiger, Executive Assistant is the glue that works to make sure all programs and events run smoothly, and the office remains organized. Kellyn works hard behind the scenes to support our team of volunteers and holds the fort down on Friday’s when the rest of the team is enjoying the sport! Pat Simmons oversees our unique and extremely valuable high-performance programs, from the development of a high-performance training centre to brand new webinars series for coaches and athletes. He continues to be a leader in redefining the coaching role, and we recently learned that the on-ice coaching rules may become the national standard. We also are proud to report at season close, CURLSASK led the MA Cup, which recognizes the province or territory with the highest finishes in all national championships. The highlight of my season was welcoming 20 youngsters to the provincial Hit Draw Tap shootout on the Scotties ice in Moose Jaw. It was a once in a lifetime
