Risk factors for falls in- cluding among others history of falls, old age, and female gender. Research studies have also linked certain medications with an increased risk of fall in what is called fall-risk-increasing drugs (FRIDs), such as psychotropics and cardiovascular drugs. However, there is a lack of consistency in the definitions of FRIDs between the studies and many studies did not use any systematic classification for medications. Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of grouping medications at different levels of granularity of a medication classification system on the performance of fall risk prediction models. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of the MIMIC-III cohort database. We created seven prediction models including demographic, comorbidity and medication variables. Medica- tions were grouped using the anatomical therapeutic chemical classification system (ATC) starting from the most specific scope of medications and moving up to the more generic groups: one model used individual medications (ATC level 5), four models used medication grouping at levels one, two, three and four of the ATC and one model did not include med- ications. -

Use of Undiluted Tea-Tree Oil As a Cosmetic
Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) Use of undiluted tea-tree oil as a cosmetic Opinion of the Federal Insitute for Risk Assessment (BfR), 1th September 2003 Background Recently there has been an increasing amount of reports on contact-allergic eczema in con- junction with the use of tea-tree oil. Tea-tree oil is sold as a pure natural product, highly con- centrated and undiluted in cosmetics. Tea-tree oil is advertised as a universal remedy al- though there is no marketing authorisation as a pharmaceutical product. Concentrated tea-tree oil has been classified as harmful according to the self-classification of the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) and is labelled with R-phrases R 22 (harmful if swallowed) R 38 (irritating to skin) and R 65 (may cause lung damage if swallowed) as well as the symbol Xn (harmful) (IFRA Labelling Manual 1, 2001). These indications of health hazards are also part of the safety data sheets of raw material suppliers. At the 65th and 66th meetings of the Cosmetics Committee at the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), health risks associated with the use of undiluted and highly concentrated tea-tree oil in cosmetic products were discussed extensively. Result Tea-tree oil is a mixture of various terpenes extracted from the Australian tea-tree. Undiluted tea-tree oil is a pure natural product. In the presence of atmospheric oxygen but also when exposed to light and higher temperatures, oxidation processes occur leading to the formation of peroxides, epoxides and endoperoxides which have a sensitising potency and may trigger allergic skin reactions. -

This guideline is a tool to aid clinical decision making. It is not a standard of care. The physician should deviate from the guideline when clinical judgment so indicates. GOAL: Pediatricians should initiate treatment for cases of “Mild” to “Severe” acne (see algorithms attached). Pediatricians should also counsel patients in order to maximize adherence to acne treatment regimens: 1. Realistic expectations. Patients should be counseled that topical therapies typically take up to 6-8 weeks to start seeing results. -
Evaluating Disinfectants for Use Against the COVID-19 Virus
When it comes to choosing a disinfectant to combat the COVID-19 virus, research and health authorities suggest not all disinfectants are equally effective. The difference is in their active ingredient(s). HEALTH CANADA AND U.S. EPA ASSESSMENTS The work to evaluate disinfectants perhaps best starts with lists of approved disinfectants compiled by government health authorities. Health Canada has compiled a list of 85 hard surface disinfectant products (as of March 20, 2020) that meet their requirements for disinfection of emerging pathogens, including the virus that causes COVID-19. It can be accessed here. You can wade through the entire list. But if you locate the Drug Identification Number (DIN) on the disinfectant product label or the safety data sheet (SDS), then you can use the search function to quickly see if the product meets Health Canada requirements. A second list, updated on March 19, 2020, provides 287 products that meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes the disease COVID-19. This list can be found here. Like the Health Canada list, you can wade through this one too. However, to best use this list, you should locate the U.S. EPA registration number on the product label or SDS, and use that number to search the list. The U.S. EPA registration number of a product consists of two sets of numbers separated by a hyphen. The first set of numbers refers to the company identification number, and the second set of numbers following the hyphen represents the product number. -
