HELPERS, TABLE WORKERS & STEWARDS Always Needed Please volunteer – no experience necessary Please indicate availability on reverse of entry form _________________________________________________________ 1 SHOW RULES AND REGULATIONS The show is held under the Rules of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy and is open to all. As a copy of the Rules is NOT included with this schedule, all exhibitors are reminded that they should read Section 4 of the Show Rules, as they will be strictly applied. Ignorance will not be accepted as an excuse for a breach of the Rules. (Copies of the Rules may be obtained from the GCCF Offices, 5 King’s Castle Business Park, The Drove, Bridgwater, Somerset. TA6 4AG) REGISTRATION No Cat or Kitten, Entire or Neutered, born after 19/10/71 with one or both parents, grand-parents or great grand parents unregistered shall be eligible for the Breed Classes. All exhibits including Household Pets exhibited at a GCCF show must be registered. All registered exhibits which have changed hands, must have been transferred to their new owner at least 10 days before the Show. All registrations and/or transfers must have reached GCCF Office at least 10 days before the Show. Cats which are not normally resident with their registered owner should be transferred into the ownership of their keeper if they are to be shown. Exhibitors are reminded that in the event of rejection, all exhibits in the same registered ownership may also be rejected and clearance may be required for both households. GENERAL NOTES FOR THE ATTENTION OF ALL The Committee reserve to themselves the right to: a). Appoint other Judges should those advertised be unable to fulfil their engagement, and to appoint further Judges should they be required. b). Fix and limit the number of exhibits at the show. c). To accept or refuse exhibit entry without giving a reason. d). Refuse admission to the hall without giving a reason. e). Cancel, amalgamate or divide classes. f). Publish a catalogue of the show containing information as to the exhibits and names and addresses of exhibitors. g). Retain a percentage of the Entry Fees to cover essential expenses in the event of the show being cancelled for any reason. h). Make an administration charge for any cheque returned unpaid by the bank. The exhibitors entry will be withdrawn from the show until such time as the Entry Fees plus an additional £15.00 administration charge are paid by that exhibitor. No further personal cheques will be accepted from that exhibitor. i). Exhibitors are responsible for the correct description of the exhibits and for entering them in the correct classes. GENERAL GUIDELINES ON ENTERING SHOWS Full Details of exhibiting at GCCF Shows are given in the GCCF Rules Section 4, available on the GCCF website under “ About GCCF” and “Forms and Downloads” at www.gccfcats.org or can be purchased for a small charge post free by telephoning the GCCF Office. The Following provides some additional explanation. Where possible, always complete your show entry form using details from your GCCF Registration Certificate for the cat that is to be exhibited. Please print the details carefully to avoid any misinterpretation of your handwriting. If the Registration Certificate you have does not show your name and address this means that the cat is not registered in your name and you must transfer the cat into your name no later than **10 days before the show. Transfer can be done instantly using GCCF “Online Services” at www.gccfcats.org. If you have not received your Registration Certificate at the time of entry, complete the show entry form with the details from the pedigree, giving the first choice of name if it is a non-prefix registration, and put RAF (Registration Applied For) or TAF (Transfer Applied For), or both, in the Regd. No. box. It is wise to enclose a stamped self-addressed acknowledgement postcard with all registration and transfer applications, particularly for cats entered for shows, so that you know that the application has been received by the GCCF. It is recommended that you keep a copy of your entry form – then, when you receive registration details and number, check these against the entry form and notify the Show Manager in writing of any differences in the details as well as giving the registration number, if applicable. This m ay not be in time 2 for the printing of the show catalogue, but the Show Manager should attach your letter to your entry form which will save unnecessary notification of discrepancies when that show is checked. All catalogue errors are checked against the original entry form and any exhibitors’ letters are used for reference. Show managements are permitted to accept corrections, at their own discretion, up to the close of the show (on show day). Any such correction must not be an addition or substitution of any exhibit for which proof of entry cannot be validated, or a change of exhibitor/owner. If you are entering several cats from your household and the registered owners (exhibitors) differ within that household/family, check with the Show Manager whether using one entry form is acceptable or not and, if it is, indicate very clearly which exhibitor owns which cat, ensuring all owners sign the entry form. It may be less confusing and more acceptable to the Show Manager for each owner to use separate entry form, but joint owners of an exhibit should always use the same form and **at least one of the owners has signed the declaration. Exhibitors are reminded that the decisions of the judges are final. Any attempt to influence such decisions, or to identify a cat or ownership of a cat to a judge at a show before that judge’s engagement has been completed, may render the offender liable to disciplinary action. IF THERE IS A MISTAKE ON YOUR ENTRY– WHAT TO EXPECT Minor Errors Should a small error be made these will be resolved between Exhibitor, Show manager and/or GCCF. Persistent repetition may result in further action being taken. Incorrect Date of Birth This is usually classed as a minor error unless it affects an entry into classes based on age groups, when it could warrant disqualification of the exhibit from such classes; but if the incorrect date of birth affects the age suitability as a whole, then the exhibit will be disqualified from the show. N.B. AGE LIMITS: Kittens – not less than 14 weeks and under 9 calendar months on date of show Adults – not less than 9 calendar months on date of show Incorrect Name of Exhibit/Owner If registration/transfer details were obviously available at the time of entry or before the date of the show, disqualification is inevitable. There are several concerns on the possible negative effects on PPG including anaesthesia, surgery and complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of PPG. Microsoft excel was used for statistical analysis. The information about 6646 purebred kittens who had gone through PPG before 27 weeks of age was obtained from the online retrospective survey.   • Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (Pkdef) in Cats
    Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency About the disease Pyruvate kinase deficiency is an inherited disease of Abyssinian and Somali cats. Pyruvate kinase is a red blood cell enzyme important in red blood cell energy metabolism. Therefore, if this enzyme is lacking, a haemolytic anaemia can result. However, the anaemia may only be mild and intermittently detectable, or may not become evident until the cat is older. A rapid severe life-threatening anaemia can also develop. The disease is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait, so only cats with two copies of the defective gene are affected. Carrier cats are clinically healthy but can pass the defective gene to their offspring. About the test The Molecular Diagnostic Unit offers a genetic test to diagnose autosomal-recessive pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKDef) in cats. This genetic test is a PCR-based pyrosequencing assay that can reliably distinguish between Affected, Carrier and Normal cats. It is highly recommended that all Abyssinian and Somali cats used for breeding are tested for the defective gene, as well as cats of these breeds showing signs of haemolytic anaemia. For Somali cats, testing for PKDef is now compulsory if cats are to be registered on the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) active register and used for breeding. Please note: The test detects the Normal and Mutant PKDef genes found in domestic cats. The test also works in Bengal and Savannah cats, and detects the Asian Leopard Cat or Serval gene if present (i.e. in F1/F2 cats). There is no point in testing Asian Leopard Cats and Servals for PKDef since the mutant gene came from the domestic cat population.

    Reds, Creams and Inbetweens Dr Kerry Fowler MSc PhD Grad Dip Ed Published in NSW CFA Catching Up 5(3/4):5-6(2003) Background Current registration systems in most Australian cat councils work on the concept that two solid cats cannot produce a tabby kitten. In the main this policy is absolutely correct however in the case of the orange or ‘O’ gene cats ie creams, reds and the less vibrant reds known as ‘gingers’ and ‘marmalades’, sticking to this hard and fast rule often results in no end of controversy and confusion. Breeders are obliged to register red or cream tabby marked kittens from solid parents as red or cream selfs and in turn judges are required to assess them as such despite some of these red or cream kittens and cats having an abundance of clear tabby markings. Being a sex-linked gene, the ‘O’ gene coat colour issues extend to tortoiseshells, blue-creams and tricolours. This article identifies some of the misunderstanding surrounding breeding and judging ‘O’ gene cats including cameos and apricots, and draws on current genetic knowledge, registration policies and show standards from other councils to help resolve some of the re-occurring questions. Genetic principles In order to help put some of the debate and perplexity aside it is worth keeping in mind that there are four basic genetic rules that help us to understand the appearance of red or cream tabbies and solids. First, the tabby pattern gene is present in all cats including solid or self cats. Second, the tabby pattern is only revealed when the dominant agouti gene product or protein is present.

Motion carried. Adler and Bourreau abstained. Bangle, Cornwell, Klamm, and Stadter opposed. The President asked if there were any changes to the minutes from the last meeting. 2: Motion made by Adler for unanimous consent to remove the language regarding "Japanese court has already ruled upon the constitutional issues". Without objection. The board discussed the current state of the Minskin breed. 3: Motion made by Hicks for unanimous consent to appoint Rachel Gouvia to working breed chair for Minskin. Without objection.
