  • Tamara: Welcome Eliza to the Females in Tech Show
Tamara: Welcome Eliza to The Females in Tech Show. I am so excited to have you on the show. Before we get started, what is one thing that you're grateful for today? Elaiza Benitez: Being alive. Tamara: Oh, wow. That is so beautiful. That really touches my heart given the bush fires in Australia at the moment, and made me a lot more grounded and grateful for life, so that's really beautiful that you've said that. Elaiza Benitez: Yeah. Tamara: The next quick-fire question, can you tell us about a recent achievement or something you're proud of? Elaiza Benitez: Actually, last week I was a first-time speaker at Microsoft conference called Microsoft Ignite. It was really was an amazing experience. I presented three sessions all on Day One of the conference and that was really cool. I was very, very nervous leading up to it, so probably three weeks beforehand, as a speaker there is a thing called the speakers portal, and you can see the number of registrations to your sessions. One of my sessions kept increasing and increasing and I was thinking, "Oh no, I have never presented to that large number before". Once I did my first session, I was fine. Tamara: Amazing. That is unbelievable. What did you present on? Elaiza Benitez: I had three presentations. The first one is what we call a community-related trek. It was around my travels around the world for three and a half months, and along the way I met the Microsoft community as it something that I've always wanted to do, and this year I did it.

There are several concerns on the possible negative effects on PPG including anaesthesia, surgery and complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the safety of PPG. Microsoft excel was used for statistical analysis. The information about 6646 purebred kittens who had gone through PPG before 27 weeks of age was obtained from the online retrospective survey. Database included cats from the different breeds and –age groups when the surgery was performed, collected in 2019.

  • CA Students Urge Assembly Members to Pass AB
May 26, 2021 The Honorable Members of the California State Assembly State Capitol Sacramento, CA 95814 RE: Thousands of CA Public School Students Strongly Urge Support for AB 101 Dear Members of the Assembly, We are a coalition of California high school and college students known as Teach Our History California. Made up of the youth organizations Diversify Our Narrative and GENup, we represent 10,000 youth leaders from across the State fighting for change. Our mission is to ensure that students across California high schools have meaningful opportunities to engage with the vast, diverse, and rich histories of people of color; and thus, we are in deep support of AB101 which will require high schools to provide ethnic studies starting in academic year 2025-26 and students to take at least one semester of an A-G approved ethnic studies course to graduate starting in 2029-30. Our original petition made in support of AB331, linked here, was signed by over 26,000 CA students and adult allies in support of passing Ethnic Studies. Please see appended to this letter our letter in support of AB331, which lists the names of all our original petition supporters. We know AB101 has the capacity to have an immense positive impact on student education, but also on student lives as a whole. For many students, our communities continue to be systematically excluded from narratives presented to us in our classrooms. By passing AB101, we can change the precedent of exclusion and allow millions of students to learn the histories of their peoples.

Blue Beetle's Adventures in the New 52By Walter Gabrielsen IIIThis is the collected volume of Blue Beetle's (Jaime Reyes) big adventures in the new 52 comics (issues 7 to 16, and also the special issue 0 -- which tells the backstory of the scarab). You get the same number of pages as in the individual issues but all together at once, and there are several story arcs here to read though, about 1 per issue. On the first page of each story is a caption title as if it were a TV episode. The art is sharp, clear, and detailed for most of the book, except I notice that the first page of issue 0 is slightly blocky and pixelated. Fortunately it's mostly minor and just for 1 page, and it's mostly a splash page, so you can squint to help hide the blockiness and enjoy the scene (the captions aren't blocky).I've another art comment about the tacked-on story, at the end of the book, that leads into the Threshold adventure.

  • Charles Williams” Tells Story of Pencils, Empowerment, Despair David S
February 26, 2020 Review: Contemporary’s “Charles Williams” Tells Story of Pencils, Empowerment, Despair David S. Cohen Curator Phillip March Jones has assembled a glorious cacophony of works in the must-see survey show The Life and Death of Charles Williams at Atlanta Contemporary through April 19. Immediately, a jaunty papier- mâché Pencil Rocket beckons us into the clean, roomy, white gallery space. Both phallic and fabulous, the giant pencil tilts provocatively upward, driven by salvaged fan blades. It’s a whirligig, an optimistic signpost, pointing the way into the jumbled world of Charles A gallery view of “The Life and Death of Charles Williams” at Atlanta Contemporary through April 19. The self-taught Kentucky-born artist (1942-1998) largely made work inspired by movie and Williams’ obsessive creativity. comic-book superheroes. (Photo by Kasey Medlin) Yet it is also a fragile object, restrained and contained, cut off from exuberant flight by the necessity of the curator’s protective glass. It is a fitting microcosm of the show: a tale of creation and transformation, elevation and energy, pencils and power, joy and death — all clinically removed from their natural environment and in the end, all too perishable. This biographical show makes it hard to separate the work from the context in which it was created. Born in 1942 to a Kentucky coal-mining family in the rural hollow of Blue Diamond, Williams had an early fascination with pop culture. He went to the segregated local movie theater whenever possible to see action stars like Superman, Batman, Tarzan, Red Ryder and Wild Bill Elliott.

  • Origin of the Egyptian Domestic Cat
UPTEC X 12 012 Examensarbete 30 hp Juni 2012 Origin of the Egyptian Domestic Cat Carolin Johansson Molecular Biotechnology Programme Uppsala University School of Engineering UPTEC X 12 012 Date of issue 2012-06 Author Carolin Johansson Title (English) Origin of the Egyptian Domestic Cat Title (Swedish) Abstract This study presents mitochondrial genome sequences from 22 Egyptian house cats with the aim of resolving the uncertain origin of the contemporary world-wide population of Domestic cats. Together with data from earlier studies it has been possible to confirm some of the previously suggested haplotype identifications and phylogeny of the Domestic cat lineage. Moreover, by applying a molecular clock, it is proposed that the Domestic cat lineage has experienced several expansions representing domestication and/or breeding in pre-historical and historical times, seemingly in concordance with theories of a domestication origin in the Neolithic Middle East and in Pharaonic Egypt. In addition, the present study also demonstrates the possibility of retrieving long polynucleotide sequences from hair shafts and a time-efficient way to amplify a complete feline mitochondrial genome. • Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (Pkdef) in Cats
Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency About the disease Pyruvate kinase deficiency is an inherited disease of Abyssinian and Somali cats. Pyruvate kinase is a red blood cell enzyme important in red blood cell energy metabolism. Therefore, if this enzyme is lacking, a haemolytic anaemia can result. However, the anaemia may only be mild and intermittently detectable, or may not become evident until the cat is older. A rapid severe life-threatening anaemia can also develop. The disease is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait, so only cats with two copies of the defective gene are affected. Carrier cats are clinically healthy but can pass the defective gene to their offspring. About the test The Molecular Diagnostic Unit offers a genetic test to diagnose autosomal-recessive pyruvate kinase deficiency (PKDef) in cats. This genetic test is a PCR-based pyrosequencing assay that can reliably distinguish between Affected, Carrier and Normal cats. It is highly recommended that all Abyssinian and Somali cats used for breeding are tested for the defective gene, as well as cats of these breeds showing signs of haemolytic anaemia. For Somali cats, testing for PKDef is now compulsory if cats are to be registered on the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) active register and used for breeding. Please note: The test detects the Normal and Mutant PKDef genes found in domestic cats. The test also works in Bengal and Savannah cats, and detects the Asian Leopard Cat or Serval gene if present (i.e. in F1/F2 cats). There is no point in testing Asian Leopard Cats and Servals for PKDef since the mutant gene came from the domestic cat population.
