Company Manager/Musical Director Michael Casey returns to Tent Theatre for his sixth sea­ son. His conducting credits include more than 40 projects at both SMSU and the Landers Theatre. In addition to serving as Tent Company Manager, Casey coordinates the Musical Theatre program at SMSU, and ) maintains an active schedule as conductor, performer and arranger. His regional credits include conducting engage­ J ments with both the Springfield Symphony and Springfield Ballet. His Branson credits include shows with Shoji Tabuchi, Neil Sedaka, Wayne Newton and Ray Stevens. Casey has performed with the Hammons Hall presentations of Diahann Carroll, Marvin Hamlisch, Fiddler on the Roof and Robert Goulet's Camelot.

Production Manager/Lighting and Sound Designer Mark Putman returns to Tent Theatre for his fourth season as Production Manager and Lighting and Sound Designer. In the last three years he has designed scenery for I am Man, Train is Comin ', I'm Not Rappaport and lighing for The Tap Dance Kid at St. Louis Black Repertory Company. At SMSU, he has designed lights for Arcadia, ,

Damn Yankees, The Threepenny Opera, Conestoga Stories LL...-...... _ and others. He has also taught and designed at the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, and University of California at Davis where he recieved his MFA. He also has worked with Hartford Stage Company, Goodspeed Opera House, Intiman, Santa Fe Opera, Theatre Projects Company, and TheatreWorks.

17 Production Directors Marcia Joy Douglas graces the Tent for a sixth season as Director of Something's Afoot. Tent also marks the end of Marcia's sixth and final year in Springfield as she moves off to the East Coast. Before joining the SMSU faculty in 1993, Douglas taught at the University of Kansas, Illinois State Unversity and the University of Nebraska. Douglas spent ...... -... 0::;0...-_ six years freelancing as an actress and director. She served as teacher/artist in Dance and Theatre for the Arts Are Basic! program at the Lied Center in Lincoln for the Nebraska Arts Council. Douglas has performed her one-woman show as far away as Norway and has directed, choreographed, and performed in more than 100 produc­ tions. Marcia offers these final words of wisdom, "Discipline is remem­ bering what you really want. Remember it."

Michael Mauldin, an Assistant Professor of Theater at SMSU, joins the Tent Company for his first season as the director of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. Michael is a member of Actor's Equity Associa­ tion and Screen Actor's Guild with many credits in Broad­ way, Off-Broadway, and Regional Theaters. r----___--, Jack Parkhurst returns to Tent Theater for his ninth season with the production of Babes in Arms. He goes from Tent to do a production of Meet Me in Sf. Louis in Illinois. Some of Parkhurst's past productions while at SMSU and Tent include Big River, Joseph, Little Shop of Horrors, The Robber Bridegroom, Pirates of Penzance, , Spoon '--'-----' River Anthology, and from this past year, Working. Jack is a member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers.

Choreographers Rhythm McCarthy returns for her 7th year as choreographer of Tent Theatre. For Tent she has choreographed The Pajama Game, The Robber Bridegroom, South Pacific, Anything Goes, Little Shop of Horrors, Once Upon a Mattress, and How to Succeed in Business. Since 1991 , McCarthy has been a member of the SMSU dance department, where she has appeared in , directed, and choreographed many productions. Professionally, she has appeared in Mame, Gypsy, Sweet Charity, Guys and Dol/s, Chicago, and Baby.

18 Mark Santi llano, choreographer for Babes in Arms, is happy to be back at his alma mater as Artist-in-Residence in and Dance department. A St. Louis native and 1986 graduate of SMSU, Mark has recently peformed around the world with Pilobolus Dance Theatre. He also toured the U.S. in productions of The King and I, West Side Story, and A Chorus Line. Mark received a Corbin Patrick Award for choreography for his work at Indianapolis' Beef and Boards Dinner Theatre. Earlier this year, Mark choreographed the Springfield Little Theatre production of Starmites. His work can also be seen in the repertory of Pilobolus Dance Theatre. In 1997 Mark and his wife, Solveig, began growing a person named Ella.

Scenic Designer J. Amburn Darnall was a member of the original Tent Company in 1963. He returns this year as the scene designer of all three Tent productions. In his spare time, he teaches design and theater technology classes at the College of the Ozarks.

Costume Designers Brad Ferguson returns to Tent this season as costumer for Something's Afoot and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. Brad's other Tent credits include A Tuna Christmas and 00 Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? He has also designed My Fair Lady at the Lander's Theater and Sound of Music, Gypsy, and The Odd Couple in Texas. Next year, Brad will design Mother Hicks at SMS. He sends special thanks to C.H., S.F. , and C.w.

Cynthia Winstead, Costume Designer for Babes in Arms, is delighted to be returning to Tent Theatre in 1999. Previ­ ously, she designed South Pacific for Tent and served as a draper for Glimmerglass Opera, New York City Opera, and Theater of St. Louis. For the 1999-2000 SMSU Theatre Season, Cynthia will be designing The Inspector General and Guys and Dolls.

19 Technical Director Don Hovis has embarked on his second year as technical director for Tent Theater. Before .~.1,~.i.:.;;(:\:··..;;:. coming to SMS, Don served as technical director for the Houston Grand Opera. When Don is not toting power tools under the Tent, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Ellen, and their beautiful 8 month old daughter, Emily Marie. Musical Director ,..::::;i?J!- and Rehearsal Pianist ·decora~ Heather Luellen returns for her fifth Tent season. Luellen is the full-time staff pianist for the Theatre and Dance department where she has served as pianist and assistant musical director for Steel Pier, Work­ ing, Damn Yankees, Threepenny Opera, Follies, Pippin, and The Red House. A graduate of Drury College, Luellen has also served as pianist for many Landers Theatre and Drury College Productions. Heather is probably most well-known for being Jake's mom!

Scene Shop Supervisor John M. Johnson returns to the Tent for his third season since 1987. Johnson came to SMSU after designing lighting at Tony Orlando's Yellow Ribbon Theatre in Branson, MO. Johnson designed lights for SMSU's A Tuna Christmas, Lucky Stiff, and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Scenic and Properties Artisan Ellen Schaeffer joins the Tent Theatre production staff for the first time this season. She received her BFA in set and lighting design from the Theatre School at DePaul University. After graduating, she remained in Chicago, where she freelanced as both designer and scenic artist for area theatres. In 1995 she was the head scenic artist and sculptor for the world premiere production of John Guare's

20 Grooms. This show was the "last hoorah" in Chicago before Ellen moved to Springfield to concentrate on her own painting.

Pubilc Relations and Marketing Director Mark Templeton joins the Theatre and Dance Department as Public Relations and Marketing Director for Tent Theatre. He has spent the last ...---==----,two years as the Marketing Assistant ir,1 the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. Before arriving in Springfield, he taught theatre in Texas for eight years. He received state recognition for his stage direction and design of Into the Woods and Wings. Mark has a BFA in theatre from Stephen F. Austin State University and an MA in Theatre pending from SMSU.

Production Stage Managers Gretchen Casey is an SMS graduate who is thrilled to return to the Tent as Production Stage Manager for Something's Afoot. She began her Tent career as a technician in 1988, continued as Production Stage Man­ ager in 1991 for Big River, Broadway Bound, and Olympus on My Mind, and performed in South Pacific in 1995. After working with college students all summer, Gretchen can't wait to return to Mt. Vernon High School, where she teaches Drama, Speech, Debate, and T.v. Production (whew!). Besides teaching and typing bios, Gretchen is the proud mother of Haley, a second grader, and the wife of a really cool guy!

Celeste Pawol, Stage Manager for Babes in Arms and Shakespeare, grew up in Omaha, NE and started to perform at the age of 5. Before moving to Missouri, Celeste worked as an actress, stand-up comic, and writer in Oregon, California, and New Mexico. In addition to Tent, she is currently working on a play in Branson with Jim Stafford and teach­ ing children's theater classes. In the fall she will be teach­ ing Theatre and English at Springfield Catholic High School. Celeste wants to extend her thanks to her friend and assistant, Jared Neff for keeping her sane and to her husband, Mark Putman for getting her a job this summer.

Gretchen Balsman is working this summer as an assistant in the costume shop. She will graduate from SMSU in May 2000 with a Bach­ elor of Science degree in Speech and Theatre Education. Future plans include teaching and pursuing a Masters degree in .Guidance and Counseling. "I would like to thank Brad and Cynthia for allowing me to be cultured in a way I could only have achieved through working in the costume shop."

Josh Bruce is a student at Parkview High School and is spending his first season in Tent as a carpenter.

Susan Brummell is an SMS graduate who is returning to the Tent to portray Jennifer in Babes in Arms. Although Susan trained at the Chi­ cago Lyric Opera and Northwestern University, her main claim to fame is that she was sawed in half and turned into a tiger nightly by David Copperfield in the Chicago production of The Magic Man.

Chris Claybough is a graduate of Greenwood High School. He will be serving as an electrician and sound technician for Tent Theater this summer. Chris is no stranger to sound engineering. He has worked for Ozark Sound Studios for two years. Following Tent, Chris will head for DePaul University to study music and sound recording technology. Chris wants to remind us, "Now cannot be later, but later can be now. "

Scott Cox is a junior/senior BFA Theatre student at SMS. He joins the Tent Company for his first season in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged and Babes in Arms. Scott performed this year at SMS in Arcadia and The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. Scott has written and directed two of his own shows in Kansas City, MO and hopes to become a brilliant writer/actor/director. Thanks 10 times over to Scott's parents whose constant support has allowed him to follow his dreams.

Annie Crumbaugh is happy to be joining the Babes in Arms cast as Nettie. This is Annie's first season in Tent, but during the past school year she appeared as Thomasina in Arcadia and Wood nymph in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. She says thanks to her wonderful family, friends, and the one who waited.

Lisa Davis,a sophomore at SMSU seeking a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Design/Technology, is joining the Tent Company for the first time as a Carpenter/Electrician. Other credits include technical crews for Arcadia, Steel Pier, Working, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and

23 Damn Yankees. She has also ventured into acting in and the Vandivort production of .

Joel Ewing, a Junior Musical Theater major at SMSU, treads the boards of Tent for the first time as Valentine in Babes in Arms and a Player in Shakespeare. Joel has been quoted as saying "In the words of Billy Shakespeare, 'Our true intent is for your delight.' We're getting sweaty and stinky for you!!"

Cortney Graham joins the casts of Babes in Arms and Something's Afoot. She is a junior Musical Theater major at SMS and has appeared in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and Steel Pier. Cortney is excited about perform­ ing with the In-school Players for a third season. Thanks to Mom and Dad for the "Amazing Support" and Cocktail enthusiasm.

Lounge Morgan Hicks can be seen performing the role of Phyllis Owen in Babes in Arms. She just re­ cently graduated with her Masters 21 9 W. Olive Street of Arts in Theater and Dance where her credits include director of Sexual Perversity in Chicago. Springfield, MO 65806 Before coming to SMS, Morgan attended the University of Ulster (417) 864-4572 school of theatre and performing arts in Northern Ireland. Immedi­ ately following Tent, she is leaving for Chicago to seek fame and fortune and will no doubt push the limits of art and good taste.

24 Eric Koziatek, carpenter, is back under the Tent for his second season. In a previous life, Eric believes he worked for the . His future endeavors include perfecting a one-man show entitled Abstrac­ tions Make It Easier to Sleep and Chlorine in the Eyes. When asked to leave us with words of wisdom, Eric said "WHAT?"

Kelley Lace is a junior Musical Theater major at SMS. He joins the Tent Company as Peter in Babes in Arms and Clive in Something's Afoot. He has graced the stages of Springfield in many productions and dance concerts. Kelley is enjoying his first tent experience and wishes to thank his mom, dad, grandma, and most of all God!

Suzy Myers returns to the Ozarks to perform Terry in Babes in Arms and Lady Grace Manley-Prowe in Something's Afoot after completing her first year at the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University. Suzy per­ formed at Landers Theater in Springfield and the Ozark Actors Theater in Rolla in Big River and Bye Bye Birdie. While in New York City, Suzy has been fortunate to serve as an intern with the "Broadway Series". Thanks to family, teachers and Febreeze.

Laura Neckermann, a junior Musical Theater major, hopes to graduate from SMS by the year 2010. She returns to the Tent for a second season as Bunny in Babes in Arms and Lettie in Something's Afoot. She has also been seen in other productions such as Working, Penelope Blues, and Noah's Art. Laura wishes to say thanks to her family and friends and especially Jack Parkhurst for his continual support and dedication to the students at SMS.

Jared Neff is the assistant stage manager for Babes in Arms and The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. He has stage managed many shows at Nixa High School, where he will return to stage manage Once Upon a Matress. He has also worked on shows with Springfield Little Theater and the Vandivort Center Theatre. As a Musical Theater major, Doug's other credits include Finch in How to Succeed, Lucky Stiff, and The Pajama Game in Tent and Follies, Damn Yankees, A Flea in Her Ear, Working, and Penelope's Blues at SMS. Doug sends love and thanks to his friends and especially his family.

Tracey Petrillo has been seen in the SMSU productions Working and Extremities. She joins the Tent Company for the first time as Ann in Babes in Arms and Dr. Grayburn in Something's Afoot. Tracey thanks her parents, friends, Backstreet Boys, Jordan Knight, and Rusty and Joel's best friend Stacy. ..who will be wearing red.

Dixie Phillips is helping out this summer in the box office and marketing area. "Hello, Tent Theatre, the hottest ticket in town, this is Dixie. How may I help you?" has become a familiar mantra to many of you, undoubt­ edly explaining her recent Student Recognition Award for PR. In her spare time, Dixie is a senior Musical Theatre major at SMSU, appearing in the SMSU productions of Steel Pier, Six Beginnings, The Visit, Spring Dance '98, and many other shows. "I love my shmoopi who I can't wait to marry on July 31 ."

Zachary Quarles is spending his summer with Tent as Lee Calhoun in Babes in Arms and Flint in Something's Afoot. Besides acting, ZQ is the Ad Sales Guru. Previous acting credits include How To Succeed in Business, Spoon River Anthology, Penelope Blues, Steel Pier, and Threepenny Opera. Next year he will be a Junior Musical Theatre Major, President of University Theatre, and will begin to shave. Zack says "thank you to Jedi Master Parkhurst for showing me the ways of the force. May your lightsaber never falter. Thanks also to Oni-Nobilicus for all the undying support."

Tim Reardon is a junior BFA Theatre Performance Major joining the Tent Company for the first time. He will be performing as Press Agent! Seymour Fleming in Babes in Arms and Colonel Gillweather in Something's Afoot. Previous credits include such productions as The Living, Line, Pillow Talk, and A Dead Man's Apartment. Next year, Tim will be a member of the In-School Players. Tim says "Hi!" to Holly's granny, who is the bomb!

Brad Reed , Sound Technician and Electrician, is a freshman at SMSU. Previously, Brad worked with the Kaliedescope Players and the Brookfield R-III Drama Department. Brad can be heard around the tent saying, "When did break end?"

28 Ryan Reed is happy to be here, happy to be there, and just plain happy. Ryan joins the Tent Company for the first season as Bob in Babes in Arms and Geoffrey in Something's Afoot. He is a Theater Performance student at SMSU where he has performed many roles, including Happy McGuire in Steel Pier (we told you he was happy), Mark in The Philadel­ phia, and Rocky in Damn Yankees. When Ryan grows up he wants to be a fireman or an actor or a teacher or a flight attendant or a crazy old man. "Thank you to Mom, Dad, Taylor, family, friends, and God for everything! Smile!"

Holly Rone just graduated from Glendale High School in time to perform in Babes in Arms and Something's Afoot in Tent. Holly was seen previ­ ously on the Tent stage as Mary Kenney in Do Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? and in How to Succeed in Business. Following the Tent Season, Holly will venture to the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. Hi to Mom, Dad, and Granny!

Bobbi Shackelford is a sophomore at SMS majoring in Mass Media with a minor in Technical Theater. She is serving her first season with Tent as a Carpenter for The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. Bobbi also helped with paint and props on Arcadia. Following gradua­ tion, she would like to go into casting and is hoping to land an internship either in L.A. or New York next summer. Bobbi thanks her friends in the scene shop who have helped corrupt her and dragged her away from acting and transformed her into a "techie".

Rusty Sneary performs his first season in Tent as Steve Edwards in Babes in Arms and as a Player in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged. Rusty's other performance credits include Arcadia, Homecoming, Working, and Damn Yankees. 1999-2000 will mark his junior year as a BFA Theater Performance Major at SMSU. He plans to have a special showing of his always-in-progress interpretive dance works and musical numbers in his upcoming "musical revue" in 2000. Rusty is happy to have one more opportunity to work with Jack Parkhurst and thanks him for his committment and courage in the success of young actors.

Andrea Toombs is a senior Scene Design student returning to Tent for her fourth season as assistant designer, paint charge and properties artisian. Andrea designed two Vandivort Baird Shows, Closer Than Ever and Blue Window. Next spring, she will be scenic designer for Picasso at the Lapine Agile.

29 Lauryl Wagoner returns as Assistant Box Office Manger for her second season with Tent. She is a fourth semester Senior in Theatre and English Education. Lauryl runs on no sleep and diesel fuel and hopes someday to graduate. "Happy Birthday my beautiful son. Castle turns 2 on July 30. It's been a wonderful two years kiddo!"

Tonya R. Wesley serves as a costume shop assistant for her second season with the Tent Company. During the 1998-99 SMS Theatre season, she designed the costumes for The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Extremities, and Sexual Perversity in Chicago. Next season, Tanya will be the scenic designer for Assassins and costume designer for Picasso at the Lapin Agile.

Jason White is a high school student from Shelbyville, Indiana, spending his first summer of Tent Theatre working as a carpenter.

Patrick "Pup" Wilson is back as a Carpenter for Tent Theatre. He just finished his freshman year at SMS as a Technical Theatre Major. Previ­ ous technical theatre credits include Steel Pier, Arcadia, The Living, and The Visit.

Robert Yoshioka graduated with a BFA in Technical Direction from the Conservatory at Webster University. He joins the Tent Company for the first season as the Master Carpenter. Previous credits include working at The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, Kentucky Shakespeare Company, Webster University, and The Black Hill Play­ house.
