Taiwan Person in charge of promoting social contributions at MMT Mazda Motor Taiwan Co.,Ltd. (MMT) and its employees are working together to build a better, brighter future. Through supporting young people’s education and helping the people in need, MMT wants to contribute to the society. Taiwan and Japan’s High School Baseball Exchange Project Human resources Community Objective: To support the development of Taiwan high school baseball team and expand communication and understanding between Taiwan and Japan through this one of the most popular sports in both countries. Initiatives: In order to improve challenge spirit of Taiwanese, MMT has hosted the Frandy Lai Taiwan and Japan’s high school baseball exchange games in cooperation with Mr. General Manager Sadaharu Oh*1 and Taiwan baseball association. Marketing Department FY March 2017 Results: MMT hosted six exchange games and promoted the films about the challenge spirit of Mr. Sadaharu Oh and Mazda, which also served the announcement of the games. a Sponsorship of national teenager MMT also made the contributions to local high school baseball athletes as the baseball game sponsorship of national teenager baseball game. a *1 Mr. Sadaharu Oh used to play at Tokyo Yomiuri Giants in Japanese Central League for 22 seasons from 1959 to 1980 as a professional baseball player. Source: Japanese BallPlayers.com at http://tinyurl.com/zzydv3v. he essay that follows, with a primary focus on professional baseball, is intended as an in- troductory comparative overview of a game long played in the US and Japan. I hope it will provide readers with some context to learn more about a complex, evolving, and, most of all, Tfascinating topic, especially for lovers of baseball on both sides of the Pacific. Baseball, although seriously challenged by the popularity of other sports, has traditionally been considered America’s pastime and was for a long time the nation’s most popular sport. The game is an original American sport, but has sunk deep roots into other regions, including Latin America and East Asia. Baseball was introduced to Japan in the late nineteenth century and became the national sport there during the early post-World War II period. The game as it is played and organized in both countries, however, is considerably different. The basic rules are mostly the same, but cultural differences between Americans and Japanese are clearly reflected in how both nations approach their versions of baseball. Although players from both countries have flourished in both American and Japanese leagues, at times the cultural differences are substantial, and some attempts to bridge the gaps have ended in failure. Still, while doubtful the Japanese version has changed the American game, there is some evidence that the American version has exerted some changes in the Japanese game.

A Japanese Baseball Superstar 'Shigeo Nagashima'
A JAPANESE BASEBALL SUPERSTAR 'SHIGEO NAGASHIMA' Shigeo Nagashima is one of the superstars of Japanese professional baseball. He is 71 years old and undergoing rehabilitation after suffering a stroke in 2004, however, he is still and superstar and everyone in Japan is keeping an eye on him and hoping that he will make a full recovery. Nagashima first grabbed peoples attention when he played for the Tokyo College baseball League and then joined the Yomiuri Giants. From then until his retirement he was a leading player as a batsman and a third baseman not only for his team but also for Japanese baseball as a whole. When I was a child, I began watching baseball on TV with great interest. By then, Nagashima was in the twilight phase of his playing career and everyone around me told how what a great p[layer he was. He captured many records- rookie of the year in 1958, season MVP 5 times, leading hitter 6 times, runs-batted-title 5 times, home run king 3 times. Of course, all these are great records, but many people say it was the way he played on the pitch rather than his records that made him great. Many others thought of him as a memorable and unforgettable man something with which I totally agree with. He was a clutch hitter-he hit when his fans wanted him to hit. One of the legends about him was his game-ending home run in the game watched by the Showa Emperor in his rookie year. His fielding too was splendid and so cool that many boys tried to copy his catching style for ground balls and his throwing style to the first baseman.

In one case, fans happily accept league expansion, soaring attendance figures, even exciting home run races as evidence that all is well in this best of all possible baseball worlds. In the other case, the same evidence can be seen as mirroring the desperate last flailing of a dying institution – or at least one on the edge of losing any recognizable character as the great American national pastime. Big league baseball’s modern-era television spectacle – featuring overpaid celebrity athletes, rock-concert stadium atmosphere, and the recent plague of steroid abuse – has labored at attracting a new free-spending generation of fans enticed more by notoriety than aesthetics, and consequently it has also succeeded in driving out older generations of devotees once attracted by the sport’s unique pastoral simplicities. Anyone assessing the business health and pop-culture status of the North American version of professional baseball must pay careful attention to the fact that better than forty percent of today’s big league rosters are now filled with athletes who claim their birthright as well as their baseball training or heritage outside of the United States.

The Newsletter of the Atlanta 400 Baseball Fan Club ________________________________________________________________________________ February 2021 By Dave Badertscher The 400 Fan Club was able to keep its consecutive Gameboree streak alive by hosting the 55th annual gala as a free virtual event on Zoom on Wednesday evening, January 20. This year’s theme was appropriately “2020: A Season Like No Other.” Due to COVID considerations our traditional cocktail reception, silent auction, raffle, and dinner were not offered. Food and beverages were on you own at home. Approximately 80 attendees and special guests participated in the session. After this enthusiastic, 90-minute celebration of Braves baseball, we could definitely lay claim to hosting the best virtual Eddie Glennon Gameboree ever. Emcee Wayne Coleman opened the Gameboree by introducing the evening’s producer, Harlow Lisak, and Fan Club President Howard Evans. Howard welcomed the attendees and talked about the work of the Club’s Board of Directors, much of which had to be done virtually in 2020. The Board is planning activities for 2021, which will include more monthly Zoom meetings, pre-game socials at Truist Park, a Major League trip to Denver during Labor Day Weekend and, pandemic permitting, minor league trips to Gwinnett and Rome and hopefully to the Braves new affiliate, the Augusta Green Jackets.
