Top 2014 Fall Events and Activities Detailed Descriptions SEPTEMBER: Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame at Neville Public Museum – Green Bay Through October, 2014 With the Packers Hall of Fame at Lambeau Field temporarily closed for renovations, the Neville Public Museum is making sure all cheeseheads can learn about Packer history and culture at the special exhibit Touchdown! Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. While you’re there, check out other fun exhibits like Agriculture to Tavern Culture – the Art, History, and Science of Beer and Century of Discovery, which commemorates the last 99 years of the Neville Public Museum. Apostle Islands Lighthouse Celebration – Bayfield Sept. 3-20, 2014 For three weeks each summer, Bayfield offers exclusive lighthouse cruises that guide visitors to the antique lighthouses along and the Apostle Islands. Embark on specialty cruises that dock at Raspberry, Michigan Sand, Devils and Outer Island. Another popular offering includes a non-stop voyage that takes guests to five of the eight historic lighthouses. Villa Louis Carriage Classic – Prairie du Chien Sept. 5-7, 2014 Each year the beautiful grounds of the Villa Louis Historic Site in Prairie du Chien host one of the largest carriage driving competitions in the nation. Drivers and guests alike dress in traditional 1800s garb and watch as more than 100 horse-drawn carriages race across the lawn. 25th Annual Chilimania – Edgerton Sept. 6, 2014 Are you ready for this season’s hottest festival? Chilimania, hailed as the “Midwest’s Largest Chili Cook-Off,” spices things up with a chili cooking contest, salsa contest and the Wisconsin State Championship CASI-Sanctioned Chili Cook-Off. Pardeeville Watermelon Festival – Pardeeville Sept. 6, 2014 If you haven’t heard of watermelon speed-eating or watermelon seed-spitting, then prepare to be amazed. At the annual Pardeeville Watermelon Festival, competitors of all ages are invited to take part in the U.S. Watermelon Speed-Eating, Seed-Spitting Championship. Tractor Show and Threshereee – Manitowoc Sept. 6-7, 2014 Learn about early life in rural Wisconsin at the annual Tractor Show and Thresheree. Artrageous Weekend – Wausau Sept. 6-7, 2014 Two days, three events and 120+ juried artists – now that’s art-rageous. At the annual art showcase, Artrageous Weekend, three separate festivals bring historic downtown Wausau alive. Wisconsin Ironman Triathlon – Madison Sept. 7, 2014 Each year, Madison transforms into an enormous cheering section for the annual Wisconsin Ironman Triathlon. With more than 75,000 spectators and 2,000 athletes, this event is not one to miss. Racers start with a 2.4 mile swim in Lake Monona, followed by a 112-mile bike ride through rural farmlands and concludes with a grueling 26.2-mile run ending at the Wisconsin State Capitol at midnight. Sputnikfest – Manitowoc Sept. 6, 2014 September 6, 1992 changed the course of history for the town of Manitowoc when a 20 pound piece of Sputnik IV crash landed in the middle of the street. To celebrate this odd twist of fate, Manitowoc hosts Sputnikfest, a wacky space-themed festival, each year. The fest draws aliens, Star Wars characters and astronauts with its out-of-this-world activities. Autumn on the Farms at Old World Wisconsin – Eagle Sept. 6-Oct. 26, 2014 For eight weeks this fall, Old World Wisconsin will celebrate the beauty – and fun – of autumn. VSCDA Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival – Elkhart Sept. 12-14, 2014 Race on over to the VSCDA Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival for a weekend of fun. Wo-Zha-Wa Days Fall Festival – Wisconsin Dells Sept. 12-14, 2014 There’s no better way to end your summer than at The Waterpark Capital of the World, so make sure to visit the Wo-Zha-Wa Days Fall Festival in Wisconsin Dells. Appropriately named for the Ho-Chunk phrase “to have fun,” there is entertainment for the entire family. Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival – Cable & Hayward Sept. 12-14, 2014 For three days each year, Cable becomes a biking mecca where thousands of cyclists travel from across the country to ride in the nation’s largest off-road bicycle event. The Chequamegon 40 is the main event, challenging 3,100 cyclists, selected by lottery, to a 40-mile course of forest roads and wooded trails. Another 1,000 riders participate in the Short & Fat, a 16-mile off-road race. Ruffed Grouse Fall Festival – Park Falls Sept. 13, 2014 Calling all sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts. The annual Ruffed Grouse Fall Festival in Park Falls has something for hunters skilled and green. Offerings include bow shooting lessons, ATV rides, a “Home Grown” market, craft fair and city-wide store front decorating contest. Bacon Bash – River Falls Sept. 13-14, 2014 After a sizzlin’ first year, Bacon Bash is returning and is meatier than ever. Running of the Llamas – Hammond Sept. 13, 2014 Travel to Hammond for one of the wackiest races in the state. At Running of the Llamas, 12 llamas sprint through downtown Hammond to the finish line, but only one will win the coveted basket of veggies. The competition kicks off with a llama parade featuring unicyclists, hula hoopers and kids donning their best llama costumes. Maple Fall Fest – Marshfield Sept. 13-14, 2014 Get ready for the ultimate breakfast experience. Windpower Windsurfing Championships – Fond du Lac Sept. 19-21, 2014 Catch them if you can! This highly competitive event is recognized by U.S. Windsurfing as part of the organization’s National Racing Tour and includes long distance racing, course racing, slalom and a freestyle windsurfing competition. Come watch competitors glide across 28-mile long Lake Winnebago and enjoy the sport and freestyle demonstrations by the Winnebago Association of Kiteboarders. Oktoberfest – Chippewa Falls Sept. 19-21, 2014 The city of Chippewa Falls celebrates its German roots each year with an authentic and delicious festival – Oktoberfest. Oshkosh Dragonboat Race & Festival – Oshkosh Sept. 20, 2014 On your mark, get set, row! This unique festival honors traditional Chinese dragonboat racing that dates back 2,400 years. Rockman Challenge – Watertown Sept. 20, 2014 This adventure race is not your average competition. The best way to explain it would be a sprint triathlon with a twist. The race starts with a four mile paddle on the Rock River, followed by a 15- mile bike ride around Jefferson County, and finally a three mile run through the woods and to finish a military style obstacle course. Kermis Dutch Festival – Little Chute Sept. 20, 2014 The town of Little Chute celebrates its Dutch heritage in a big way each year with the Kermis Dutch Festival. This all-day event feels like a trip to the Netherlands, with authentic fare, entertainment and fun. Visitors can enjoy the Pannenkoek breakfast, performances by the Klompen dancers and watch the wooden shoe carver bring the Netherlands to Wisconsin. Fat Tire Ride – Lake Geneva Sept. 20, 2014 You don’t need to be a pro-biker to enjoy the Fat Tire Ride in Lake Geneva. This annual fun-filled bicycle ride winds riders through 21.5 miles of paved roads around beautiful Geneva Lake. During the race, bikers can stop at tavern “rest stops” to hydrate with their drink of choice. Riders can also take part in the costume contest, celebratory pig roast and enter to win raffle prizes. 10th Annual Driftless Area Art Festival – Soldiers Grove Sept. 20-21, 2014 Celebrating its 10th year, the Driftless Area Art Festival is bringing back 80 unbeatable local vendors offering guests a taste of culture with food, music and visual art. Guests from throughout Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa visit this annual fest to purchase unique works of painting, photography, ceramics, glass, metal works, sculpture, woodworking and jewelry. Wine & Harvest Festival – Cedarburg Sept. 20-21, 2014 Celebrate the season of fall at Cedarburg’s annual Wine & Harvest Festival. The national race series has selected Racine as a premier destination for a half marathon, in addition to the 5K and 1-mile Fun Run for children. Milwaukee Film Festival – Milwaukee Sept. 25- Oct. 9, 2014 The smell of popcorn, the excited chatter while waiting in line and the unique screening venues can only mean one thing. Holiday Harvest Wine & Food Festival – Great River Road Nov. 8-9, 2014 Everyone knows with the holidays comes delicious food and beverages.
