INDEX TO BULLETINS 1-268 OF THE BRITISH WEST INDIES STUDY CIRCLE Published by the British West Indies Study Circle Index to Bulletins 1-260 CONTENTS Preface Month/Year of Bulletins Numbers Anguilla Antigua Bahamas Barbados Barbuda Belize Bermuda British Guiana British Honduras British Virgin Islands British West Indies Cayman Islands Dominica Exhibitions Grenada Grenada Grenadines Guyana Jamaica Leeward Islands Miscellaneous Items Montserrat Nevis St.Christopher St.Christopher, Nevis and Anguilar St.Kitts St.Kitts-Nevis St.Lucia St.Vincent Tobago Trinidad Trinidad and Tobago Turks Islands Turks & Caicos Islands Windward Islands 1 Index to Bulletins 1-268 PREFACE This index has been prepared following on from the sterling efforts of Victor Toeg, who undertook the enormous task of producing the index to bulletins 1-100, and Michael Wilson who produced 101-127 and 128-151, each published as a separate index. With the advent of the Word Processor the opportunity has been taken to convert these original hard copy indexes into electronic format, to amalgamate them into one document, and to bring the index up to date. From this point forward future indexing will be relatively straightforward and the index will be updated within a short period after each bulletin is published. To those members with a PC it will be available on-line, alternatively up-to-date hard copy prints will be available on request from the Publications Officer. The index now provides easy access to an enormous corpus of high quality information covering virtually every topic within British West Indies philately. As the number of subjects covered has expanded over the years it has been deemed necessary to sub-divide the topics under each colony heading into four separate categories, each entry being listed in alphabetical order. It is heartening to see that a number of the entries have multiple page references, the original representing a query and those subsequent supplying the answer or additional information. This is an essential feature of any study circle, the sharing of knowledge and expertise. Peter Fernbank January 2002 Notes: (These notes, made by Victor Toeg in 1987, are still relevant) Not everything in the Bulletins has been included in the index. I have followed the principle that items involving philatelic enquiries and information in a wide sense should be covered and in addition the affairs of the Study Circle and its members are also shown. There is a fair amount of overlapping in references, and this is intentional. An item may, for example, affect more than one country, or it may be information relating to the British West Indies generally. In such cases the same reference is included under the several countries and/or under the heading 'British West Indies'. The original Bulletins numbered 1-7 (both inclusive) for the period April 1954 to October 1955 were, as might be expected, rather simple and crude being produced in pamphlet form in a larger format than that of the Bulletins numbered 8 onwards. Sometime after the present format was adopted, it was realised that the numbers of these early Bulletins were very limited and persons joining the Study circle subsequently would find it extremely difficult or impossible to acquire a complete set of Bulletins. It was decided therefore to print a quantity of Bulletins numbered 1-7 (both inclusive) abridged, to be comprised in one Bulletin in the current format and at the same time the contents were suitably pruned which resulted in the pages being renumbered. Consequently, reference to page numbers in the Bulletins numbered 1-7 will be the original page numbers when mentioned in Bulletin 8 onwards until the printing of the abridged version of Bulletins 1- 7 occurred. 2 Index to Bulletins 1-268 Bulletin Numbers Year January April July October Year March June September December 1954 1 2 3 2019 260 261 262 263 1955 4 5 6 7 2020 264 265 266 267 1956 8 9 10 11 2021 268 1957 12 13 14 15 1958 16 17 18 19 1959 20 21 22 23 1960 24 25 26 27 (Sept) 1961 28 29 30 31 1962 32 33 34 35 1963 36 37 38 39 March June September December 1964 40 41 42 43 1965 44 45 46 47 1966 48 49 50 51 1967 52 53 54 55 1968 56 57 58 59 1969 60 61 62 63 1970 64 65 66 67 1971 68 69 70 71 1972 72 73 74 75 1973 76 77 78 79 1974 80 81 82 83 1975 84 85 86 87 1976 88 89 90 91 1977 92 93 94 95 1978 96 97 98 99 1979 100 101 102 103 1980 104 105 106 107 1981 108 109 110 111 1982 112 113 114 115 1983 116 117 118 119 1984 120 121 122 123 1985 124 125 126 127 1986 128 129 130 131 1987 132 133 134 135 1988 136 137 138 139 1989 140 141 142 143 1990 144 145 146 147 1991 148 149 150 151 1992 152 153 154 155 1993 156 157 158 159 1994 160 161 162 163 1995 164 165 166 167 1996 168 169 170 171 1997 172 173 174 175 1998 176 177 178 179 1999 180 181 182 183 2000 184 185 186 187 2001 188 189 190 191 2002 192 193 194 195 2003 196 197 198 199 2004 200 201 202 203 2005 204 205 206 207 2006 208 209 210 211 2007 212 213 214 215 2008 216 217 218 219 2009 220 221 222 223 2010 224 225 226 227 2011 228 229 230 231 2012 232 233 234 235 2013 236 237 238 239 2014 240 241 242 243 2015 244 245 246 247 2016 248 249 250 251 2017 252 253 254 255 2018 256 257 258 259 3 Index to Bulletins 1-268 ANGUILLA Postal History In Transition 224/7 Commonwealth Reply Coupon Used in Anguilla 224/9 Mail Service - 1920s to 1995 174/49 Post Office Reports 1957 213/6 Service Suspended due to Insurrection (1969) 189/8, 219/9 Subsidised Mail Contracts to BWI Colonies,1863-1917 239/8 Postal Markings ‘Small but FREE’ handstamp on 1967 cover 233/6 St Kitts cds 104/8 Stamps/Postal Stationery 1969 Independence issue - recognition after 30 years 182/58 Miscellaneous Around the Caribbean 172/5, 175/94, 177/58, 178/80, 179/98, 181/42, 182/55, 185/52, 187/83 Battle for Anguilla 1796 171/80 British Postal Orders overprinted for Br.
