Seminar: Windshield Replacement Have you ever tried replacing a windshield in a vintage car? Everything is going great except one corner doesn’t seem to be level with the rest of glass, so you just give it a little push and then the windshield cracks. To avoid this kind of disaster and other pitfalls when installing a windshield, we invite you to learn from a professional. This unique seminar will be conducted by Lloyd Mathis, a long-time windshield installer out of St. Louis, and Nick Dimopoulos, a former Renault Dealer from Massachusetts. Together, they will replace a windshield in a classic car as well as give step by step instructions as they complete the job. All will be revealed, so the next time you need to replace a windshield you will have the knowhow to do it yourself. Takes place at the Grandstand Saturday at 10:30 AM.

DRIVEN TO CURE

ANDREW LEE AND HIS 2015 NISSAN GT-R

The car community is a tight-knit group, often coming together to support “one of their own” in times of need. That solidarity led to Carlisle Events teaming up with Driven to Cure (DTC). Founded by car enthusiast Andrew Lee, DTC is a non-profit established to help raise awareness and provide funding for the ANDREW LEE AND HIS 2015 NISSAN GT-R research of rare kidney cancers like Hereditary Leiomyomatosis and Renal Cell Cancer (HLRCC) in children and young adults. Lee passed away on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019 after a long and courageous battle with HLRCC. Despite his passing, the cause forges on with events, fundraisers, etc. and has raised $600,000 in three years for research. See Andrews’s car, a customized 2015 Nissan GT-R complete with a personalized license plate that reads F CANCR in Building Y. His passion for the car culture has helped bring this event to Carlisle and we hope you’ll stop by to support the cause.Learn more about DTC online: driventocure.org/andrews-story

20th Anniversary of the Renault Owners Club at Carlisle

The Renault Owners Club of North America has assembled a special display featuring Renault Club members and their vehicles sold or built in North America from 1948-87, as well as the Renault 12 based Dacia that were sold in Canada in the mid-1980s. The Central PA Chapter of the Renault Owners Club was formed in Carlisle at the start of the millennium – we are excited to celebrate their 20th anniversary of joining us!

John Webber died on June 6, 2020. He was 57. Saabs@Carlisle would normally be overwhelming for any first time Saab enthusiast attendee. Yet, fortunately for me I had the perfect Saab guide in Ben Hinkle to help me navigate the sea of Saabs. This particular year there was a virtual rainbow of 99 models on the Showfield and the spectrum of colors was like tearing into a bag of Wild Berry Skittles — there was an electric blue, a pale yellow and a vibrant brown among others. However, on this particular day, the one and only 99 that commanded my attention was the one dressed in Skittles Starburst Orange. The builder and owner of this car was John Webber. John was one of the first Saab owners that I met that day and I immediately knew he was a true Saab aficionado. Over the years I came to realize just how special and devoted John was to his family and the Saab brand. John told me all about the Central Penn Saab Club and ushered me into the membership fold. I will forever hold numerous memories of the times that I would see John and engage him in conversations about Saabs. Yet, the most memorable was the first time that he invited me into his home. I met his son, Ehren, during this visit, who is a wonderful person and an even better son — the bond between this father and son team is remarkable. John was so proud of his family and also of the amazing 99 that he built. He was such a considerate individual that he even asked a fellow Saab 99 owner, who also owned an orange 99, if it would be okay with him if John changed the color of his 99 to orange — a real gentleman's gesture. We were treated to a complete walk-through of his beautiful 1978 Saab 99. One could not help but be amazed by the level of work and detail that John put into this piece of art. John even gave us a tour of his home, showing us all of his Saab memorabilia that he had collected over the years. We recently lost John, quite unexpectedly, leaving a void within our tight-knit Saab community which may never be filled! Every year, the first thing I do upon arriving at Saabs@Carlisle is to head over to the "Big Saab Tent" and find John's orange 99, which is always in the same spot waiting for me to place my Toys for Tots donation in his car. Rest in peace, John, and know that our Saab community will forever be there for your family.

Carlisle Events purchased the site of the former International Automotive Components (IAC) plant, located on Carlisle Springs Road, three blocks from the Carlisle Fairgrounds, in 2008.

The site was cleared, plans were made and approved, red tape was cut, roads and sidewalks were built and trees were planted.
