    The Bishop’s Chaplain The Bishop of Chelmsford seeks to appoint an Anglican priest to act as Chaplain to assist him in his diocesan role. The Post The role of Bishop’s Chaplain encompasses spiritual, liturgical, executive, pastoral, research and communication responsibilities. The role requires someone with clarity of thought, ability to work on complex issues with tact and diplomacy, an eye for detail as well as an appreciation of wider issues, excellent administrative and interpersonal skills and the capacity to manage and prioritise their workload according to the Bishop’s work agenda. The Chaplain will advise and be a sounding board to the Bishop and work collaboratively with other members of the team. The person appointed will need to be resilient and dependable, impartial and good humoured and have emotional and spiritual intelligence to navigate a varied, challenging and fulfilling ministry. The Chaplain will be paid a salary which will be the equivalent of an incumbent status stipend, be in receipt of a non-contributory Clergy Pension and be provided with a house free of rent and Council Tax in close proximity to Bishopscourt in order to carry out their duties more effectively. There is a national Bishop’s Chaplains’ network which provides peer support. The post is subject to Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) Clearance. NOTICES The Chair drew attention to the notices on the day paper. 2. MINUTES OF DIOCESAN SYNOD MEETING HELD 17 MARCH 2018 The minutes were approved. 3. STEWARDSHIP IN THE 21ST CENTURY The Chair suspended standing orders and invited the National Stewardship Adviser, John Preston, to address the Synod. The key points from this presentation were: Stewardship is our response with that entrusted to us by a generous God, in all aspects of our lives as followers of Jesus. It includes regard to money, but also in other areas. It also applies to us as individuals and as Churches. Communication is vitally important to convey the need to give. There are distinctive faith perspectives on giving and generosity. The vision, purpose and impact on giving needs to be communicated, so donors understand the difference the church is making in its community. Information on the costs and financial situation also needs to be communicated so church members can form a realistic understanding of the scale of the challenge. One method developed to combat static giving is the Parish Giving Scheme. This is now offered in 13 dioceses, with several others joining in the next year or two. 18,000 people are currently giving through the scheme nationally. The take up in Chelmsford is notably behind the curve. Churches should consider providing ways for people to give that suit them.

    St Mary the Virgin SEPTEMBER North Shoebury 2020 TUESDAY 8TH SEPTEMBER –NATIVITY OF THE VIRGIN MARY FRIDAY 11TH SEPTEMBER—ANIVERSARY OF THE ATTACK ON THE WORLD TRADE CENTRE NEW YOUK WEDNESDAY 23RD SEPTEMBER—AUTUMN EQUINOX 1 September 2020 – Where two or three are gathered Matthew 18:20 20For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.’ Lockdown started on the 23rd March 2020. Here I am writing this on 18th August 2020, 148 days later. A great deal has happened in this time. The virus is still there, but we know more about it. We are more aware of the methods of spread, and we still need to be cautious, regardless of what any government may say. We need to care both for ourselves, and each other. The agenda of a government is very different. In this time church has changed. Just before lockdown, we had changed the way church worked, we had smaller groups, simple distanced services. Now, our churches are open again, but there are still restrictions. This has had an impact on families who are looking for Baptism, those who are wishing to get married, but also for those who are trying to organise funerals. Our regular weekly services are reduced, and for those who are unable to attend church, but still wish to be part of the family that is St. Mary’s North Shoebury some services are streamed on the Internet. This brings me back to the verse I chose for this letter. I have always thought of “two or three” being gathered in one place would probably be in church.
