CHAPTER 2 The Growth of the Christian Church No time machine will transport you to faraway places and times, Introduction but through this chapter, you can come to understand something of the history of the Christian Church. In doing so, you will gain a better sense of how there came to be a variety of ways of inter preting this faith, which has had a major impact on Canadian society and on the character of Newfoundland and Labrador. As you explore the five scenarios presented here, you will learn how various Christians struggled to live as persons of faith. This chapter begins about 300 years after Paul wrote his letter to the Galatians, telling them to focus on faith, not rules.
