This international network included Richard Neville, Martin Sharp, Felix Dennis, Jim Anderson, Robert Whitaker, Philippe Mora and Germaine Greer. Several other individuals were also fundamental in the success of OZ, their hard work unaccredited at the time, including Marsha Rowe and Louise Ferrier. -

The 60s ra e currently decried by a younger generation, jealous of the alleged freedoms and actions of the baby boomers who have supposedly left them nothing to inherit but the wind. Revisionist writers go to extraordinary lengths to debunk the mythology of the 60s, but in essence they mainly rail against the late 60s early 70s. In their attacks on the baby boomers they conveniently forget that the oldest of this demographic grouping was only 14 in 1960, and the vast majority of them were not even teenagers! The revolutionary movement of the 1960s was no exception. 1967 is forever associated with flower power, peace, and the summer of love, while 1968 —tumultuous in terms of global unrest and revolutionary ferment — is synonymous with being “the year of the bar- ricades.” Much has been written about 1968 and music and revolution, most notably Mick Jagger and John Lennon in Britain and their brief flirtations with radical chic. -

Synieokyi Doctor of Social Communications, Associate Professor, Professor of the Department of Philology and Publishing, Kremenchuk Mykhailo Ostrohradskyi National University, Kremenchuk, Ukraine [email protected], [email protected] https://orcid.org/0000-0002-1419-4964 THE STUDY OF SESSIONAL RECORDINGS OF 1962–1972 FROM THE BBC RADIOARCHIVE (THE BEATLES, PINK FLOYD, DEEP PURPLE) Due to the recent increase in research interest in phono documents, which were created specifically for radio, a documentary analysis of the creation of music programs of the British Broadcasting Corporation is provided. Particular attention is paid to an overview of the chronology of recording sessions for a number of selected bands from the BBC’s archival collection (1962–1972). The role of John Peel in the creation of creative music programs within the framework of “Radio 1” was noted. The study showed that the digitalization of archival space has brought new opportunities for finding lost rarities that were at the origins of rock music. Both positive and negative trends in the restoration and use of archived musical phonograms from radio storages are noted. The films range from shaky, distant, dark, obscured, impossible to watch through to steady, clear, close films with great sound. There's virtually nothing from the 70's or 80's but the 90's and 00's are well covered. The ratings: * - fairly tough going - hardcore fans only; ** - not bad, watchable for long stretches; *** - Prety good or better throughout; Note the tracks listed are the whole gig set list - not necessarily what is on the film - I'll tidy this up when I get a chance.. -

Cross-examining Richard Neville Of all the people in the underground Richard Neville has clashed most spectacularly with courts, police, Mary Whitehouse and the rest of the custodians of moral behaviour. In his book Play Power he attempted a rationale for the “underground’s” emphasis on cultural liberation as opposed to the somewhat slighted efforts of more orthodox socialist activists. Here we take up the themes of cultural revolution, rock, the underground, opened up in our last two issues, in an extended (and argumentative) interview with Neville. 7 DAYS staffers Anthony Barnett, Judith Ferguson and Maxine Molyneux, along with Clive Goodwin spent an evening with Neville and a tape recorder. Five months later the Appeals Court quashed the convictions and the unprecedented jail sentences. The trial judge was castigated and demoted.
