Routine Operations 2. Special Event State Fair Service 3. Incident Management Routine Operations Currently, DART operates four light rail transit (LRT) lines. Each line generally offers 15 minute peak period service frequencies and 20 minute midday and evening service frequencies on weekdays. On weekends, service frequencies are 20 minutes, tapering to 30 minutes in the evenings. All four LRT lines currently converge on the transit mall in downtown Dallas, as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1. Existing DART Light Rail Transit Configuration in Downtown Dallas Page 1 The D2 alignment will be used by DART’s Orange Line and Green Line, whereas DART’s Red Line and Blue Line will remain on the transit mall in downtown Dallas, as shown in Figure 2. This frees up capacity on the transit mall, allowing additional Red Line service to be added during the peak hour to address core capacity. Endpoints for each of the four lines will remain the same as existing service, as summarized in Table 1 and Figure 3.

    DIRECTIONS TO THE STATE FAIR State Fair visitors can ride the DART Rail Green Line to two stations - Fair Park Station, located on Parry Avenue at the entrance to the fairgrounds, and MLK, Jr. Station, located south of R.B. Cullum Blvd. and convenient to the MLK fairground entrance (Gate 6) and the Cotton Bowl Stadium. Traveling from Denton County? Take the A-train from one of five stations and transfer to DART’s Green Line at Trinity Mills. **Please note: The A-train does not operate on Sunday. DRIVING DIRECTIONS From Sherman-Plano-Richardson Take U.S. 75 (North Central Expressway) South toward Downtown Dallas. Take exit 284A to connect to Interstate 30 East (toward Texarkana), then take exit 48B and follow directions to Fair Park. From Austin-Waco Take Interstate 35E North to Downtown Dallas. Take exit 428B to connect to Interstate 30 East (toward Texarkana), then take exit 48B and follow directions to Fair Park. From Fort Worth-Abilene-Weatherford Take Interstate 30 East to Dallas. Follow the signs for Interstate 30 East toward Texarkana. After you pass Downtown Dallas, take exit 48B and follow directions to Fair Park. From Denton-Lewisville-Gainesville Take Interstate 35E South to Downtown Dallas and exit 427E. Immediately after taking the exit, move to one of the left two lanes which will put you on Interstate 30, Eastbound. Follow the signs for Interstate 30 East toward Texarkana. After you pass Downtown Dallas, take exit 48B and follow directions to Fair Park. From Houston-Huntsville-Corsicana Take Interstate 45 North to exit 284A.

This page intentionally left blank Executive Summary About DART Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a sub-regional transportation authority that was created by a voting majority of the citizens on August 13, 1983, to organize and provide public transportation and complementary services to jurisdictions pursuant to Chapter 452 of the Texas Transportation Code (the Act). Its service area comprises 13 North Texas municipalities (Addison, Carrollton, Cockrell Hill, Dallas, Farmers Branch, Garland, Glenn Heights, Highland Park, Irving, Plano, Richardson, Rowlett, and University Park) as shown in Exhibit I.2 (on page 6). Its headquarters is located in downtown Dallas. Under the Act, DART is authorized to collect a 1 percent sale and use tax on certain transactions. DART provides bus, light rail, commuter rail, paratransit, vanpool, and other services to our 13 municipalities across a 700- square-mile service area with a population of 2.4 million in the Dallas, Texas, area. DART has operated bus service since its inception in 1983. The first segment of light rail opened in 1996, and the 20-mile Light Rail Starter System was completed in May 1997. Since then, DART has worked to expand light rail considerably. DART operates 93 miles of light rail, including an extension to UNT Dallas that opened October 24, 2016. DART operates commuter rail service—Trinity Railway Express, which also opened in 1996—jointly with the Fort Worth Transportation Authority along a 34-mile rail corridor between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth.

    FP-021 DART Fair Park Station During the first seven decades that the State Fair of Texas was in existence, trolleys transported people from all over Dallas to Fair Park’s Parry Avenue Entrance Gates. Beginning in 2009, Dallas Area Rapid Transit revived that tradition when it opened its Fair Park light-rail station, at the very spot where the trolleys once disembarked their passengers. In creating their vision for a modern transportation station, artists Brad and Diana Goldberg paid respect to the rich history of the area. For example, most DART stations sport barrel- vault or gull-wing canopies. For this station, however, the Goldbergs designed horizontal canopies whose crisp, clean look mirrored the Art Deco styling of Fair Park. Other elements of the station contribute to the seamless design. Fluted limestone columns pay homage to the limestone found on the Hall of State within Fair Park. And the station’s curvilinear seating echoes the rounded shapes evident in the Fair Park Band Shell and the concrete benches located throughout the park. Meanwhile, the way the station is artistically lit at night pays tribute to how dramatic lighting would transform Fair Park at night during the Texas Centennial Exposition of 1936. Board a DART light-rail car here and it will take you to such locations as the Martin Luther King, Junior Center, Baylor University Medical Center, Deep Ellum, Downtown Dallas, Victory Park and Love Field. ### .
