The Rob Roy MacGregor tartan brought to America in the 19th century by my great uncle, Big Jock McCluskey, an adventurer and trader from Scotland. Like many things that crossed the Atlantic, the tartan gained a new American name, Buffalo Plaid. Today it is the symbol of BraeVal.

Our apparel is the result of original American design born of comfort, and time-tested classics in the Scottish tradition. This fusion is uniquely American and distinctly BraeVal.

The pockets are organized, sized and located properly with NINE outer pockets and one interior pocket. The ideal pocket position allows for immediate access to all of my gear; fly boxes, GPS, I phone, Bird ID handbook, binoculars, shells, chokes. The arm pockets provide quick access to my phone or jotter pad when I’m afield. The rear carry-all game zip pockets allow me to take lunch and a bottle of BraeVal on my hike. The Shepherds Tweed is the perfect weight allowing for various temperature spectrums and acts as a layer in early fall and provides warmth without bulkiness in the winter. Our Ghillies Jacket performs great in the field or at the shooting club and impresses on the town….

Ghillie is a highland Scots term that refers to a man who acts as an attendant on fishing and hunting expeditions. A ghillie may also serve as a gamekeeper employed by a Highland chief or landowner.
