tour description

Day 1 : SIEM REAP - BENG MEALEA - KOH KER (-/L/D)

Morning, drive from Siem Reap to the remote Beng Mealea temple through the typical Khmer countryside (60 km from Siem Reap) There is a lot to see in the drive as it takes you through many lively villages and along kilometers of rice paddies. Explore the long abandoned temple (11th century), strangled by the jungle. After the visit of Beng Mealea drive to Svey Leu to discover a hidden place called "Poeung Komnou" and enjoy an amazing lunch in the countryside. After lunch continue to Koh Ker. Set off to experience a contrasting landscape and travel deep into the Cambodian jungle to Koh Ker a magnificent temple site, magically concealed within ancient Koki and Boeng trees. Stroll though the entrance of the temple and reach the opening to the main temple which stands symmetrically and impressively high above the surrounding forest. After visiting the temple, enjoy a welcome drink and a rest. Dinner with the Khmer set menu and overnight at the camp.

Day 2 : KOH KER - SIEM REAP (B/L/-)

Enjoy an early sunrise from the summit of the immense pyramid of Prasat Thom. Return to the camp for breakfast and start a cycling tour around the temples. There are more than 30 major structures and experts believe there may have been as many as 100 minor sacred buildings in the region. Enjoy a lunch at the camp and return to Siem Reap. Visit Banteay Srei temple (10th century), regarded as the jewel in the crown of classical Khmer art. Continue to visit Banteay Samre, one of the most complete complexes at Angkor due to restoration using the method of "anastylosis". The name Samre refers to an ethnic group of mountain people, who inhabited the region at the base of and were probably related to the Khmers. No inscriptions have been found for this temple, but the style of most of the architecture is of the classic art of the middle period similar to . The proportions of Banteay Samre are splendid. A unique feature is an interior moat with paving, which when filled with water must have given an ethereal atmosphere to the temple. In the late afternoon return to Siem Reap. includes excludes

season surcharges which will be advised at the time of booking Visa fees Early check-in and late check-out at hotels, if not mentioned in the programme notes

Camping safaris are very much a seasonal adventure. Anyone who has had experience of camping in the rain will understand that the wet season is not the ideal time to undertake a safari. The best season for undertaking a safari is from November through to April, roughly corresponding to the dry season and the tourist high season. May, June and July need not be a bad time either, as it is hard to predict when the rains will come. October is also usually possible, as the rains are easing up at this time, although later in the month is a safer bet. We would not recommend a safari trip during August and September.
