8 Shrine Herald National Shrine of the Little Flower Basilica Check out Our Summer Highlights! Since last we checked in we had a retreat for our incoming freshmen and took a trip to Cedar Point with a group of all our teens! Both were a blast, and it was fun in particular to prepare for 9th grade with Jesus. Water balloons were thrown, upperclassmen shared advice, we swung from ropes, and attended Mass together. Thanks for all who made both events possible, especially our adult and teen leaders!

Summer is Nearing its End, Our Fall Kicks Off on September 12 Get ready. More details to come. Both age groups (middle and high school) will kick off on 9/12.

Mark your calendars for the return of Ascend! Ascend is a powerful night of prayer that includes Eucharistic Adoration in the basilica, powerful preaching, a mixture of contemporary and traditional praise and worship, and silent prayer. Following the holy hour, Prayer Ministry will be available from trained ministers from the Encounter School until 9pm.

Fr. Patrick Gonyeau will share on “Jesus our Healer.” Fr. Patrick served as an Associate Pastor at Shrine, and is also an instructor in the Encounter School of Ministry. In order for your child to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion at the traditional time of second grade, he/she must attend Religious Formation classes or Catholic school starting in the fall of first grade. We are currently accepting registrations for the 2021-2022 Religious Formation year for children not attending Catholic school. Please contact Renee Cramer at [email protected] or 248.541.5133 for a new student registration packet. Registration Has Started for the 2021-2022 Religious Formation Year Family Catechesis for grades K - 8 takes place at Shrine Catholic Grade School from 10:30am-noon on two Sun- days a month from September through May. At least one parent is required to participate. Weekly Mass atten- dance is expected (Saturday nights or Sundays, with 9:00 am or 12:30 pm Mass encouraged). For part of our session time, children will participate in age-level classes with grades 2, 7 and 8 focusing on sac- rament preparation while parents enjoy coffee, adult company and gain tools to help raise their children in the faith in an increasing secular world. Children with special needs are invited to register for our Wednesday sessions that meet 6 – 7 pm in the Shrine Conference Center. Please contact Janie Lynch at [email protected] or 248.541.5133 for a new student registration packet! Late Registrations Being Accepted Now! The Religious Formation Office has been busily planning, ordering supplies, and getting staff in place for our upcoming formation year, based on our current enrollment. Our first session starts Sunday, September 12. Late registrations are being accepted and processed at this time. For a registration packet or for more information, please contact Janie Lynch at [email protected] or 248.541.5133. First Year Confirmation Candidates in Religious Formation or attending Shrine Catholic Academy In an effort to better accompany our young people who will begin formation for Confirmation this year, our parish is introducing Confirmation Connections, a mentor-based kickstart at the beginning of the process! An email was sent out to our families regarding this enhancement to our Confirmation process. If you did not receive an email, or would like additional information, please email [email protected] or call 248-541-5133. Special Needs Religious Formation Classes Wednesday evenings: 6:00 – 7:00 pm The program is open to Kindergarten – 8th grade. We address individual needs and offer group instruction in a multi-age classroom. The classes consist of an opening prayer group with music. Group instruction may include discussions, arts and crafts, videos and opportunity for hands on religion activities. We are able to provide one-on-one help for your child. We follow the Adaptive Finding God Program by Loyola Press. The program is open to all parishes. Contact Renee Cramer at [email protected] or 248.541.5133.
