Abstract This study aims to evaluate the successive extraction of the active ingredients and their anticancer activity of arial parts (stem, leaves and flowers) of S. oleaceous. Therefore, Sonchus oleraceus aerial parts were subjected to a successive extraction by using solvent of different polarities; each fraction was evaluated for its anticancer. Each active extract was farther biogided fractionated to determine and identify the active compound/s present in each sub-fraction. All the tested species were extracted using four solvents: hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol and water. Phenols, flavonoids and tannins were quantified for all extracts. The chemical analysis proved it to will be a good source of protein, fat and carbohydrates. The results showed that the percentages of moisture content (92.72%), ash content (15.14%), crude protein (25.94%), crude lipid (4.05%) and carbohydrate (54.87%) respectively of the S. oleraceus L. the highest content of total phenolic (TP), total flavonoid (TF) and total tannin (TT) was obtained by methanol fraction. The active ingredients were evaluated as well employing gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). -

Most members of the alliance are endemic to the oceanic archipelagos in the phytogeographic region of Macaronesia. They display extensive morphological, ecological, and anatomical diversity, likely caused by the diverse habitats on islands and rapid adaptive radiation. As a premier example of adaptive radiation and insular woodiness of species endemic to oceanic islands, the alliance has been the subject of intensive evolutionary studies. While phylogenetic studies suggested that it is monophyletic and its major lineages radiated rapidly early in the evolutionary history of this group, genetic mechanisms of speciation and genomic evolution within the alliance remain to be investigated. We first attempted to address chloroplast (cp) genome evolution by conducting comparative genomic analysis of three representative endemic species (Sonchus acaulis, Sonchus canariensis, and Sonchus webbii) from the Canary Islands. -

We have compiled recently published and unpublished data from “PIM initiative” (Mediterranean small island initiative) and other kind of expeditions. For each small island or archipelago we seek to establish the membership to or relationship with the regional hotspots of the Mediterranean basin and the important plant areas (IPA) of Algeria and Tunisia, thanks to species-area relationships and biogeographical analyses. Nowadays, 25 small islands are considered as botanically well-known and can be analysed. Species-area relationship follows a classical linear regression model while some islands are less rich than predicted and other ones are more rich. These richest islands can be assessed as IPA following criterion B. Some of them have been yet assessed as IPA following criterion A, especially because of presence of local or regional endemism. Each main archipelago shows biogeo - graphical links not only with neighbour continental coasts, but also with northern coasts or big islands from the western Mediterranean, especially the Tyrrhenian complex. -

The evolutionary origin and taxonomic position of Dendroseris and Thamnoseris (Cichorieae, Asteraceae) are discussed in the light of recent molecular systematic studies. Based on the previous development of a robust phylogenetic framework, we support the inclusion of the group as a subgenus integrated within a new and broad concept of the genus Sonchus. This approach retains information on the evolutionary relationships of the group which most likely originated from an adaptive radiation process; furthermore, it also promotes holophyly in the subtribe Hyoseridinae (for- merly Sonchinae). Consequently, all the former Dendroseris and Thamnoseris species must be transferred to Sonchus. A preliminary nomenclatural synopsis of the proposed subgenus is given here, including the new required combinations. Bayesian and maximum parsimony phylogenetic analyses of 92 collections of the genera Basidiophora, Bremia, Paraperonospora, Phytophthora and Plasmopara were performed using nuclear large subunit ribosomal DNA sequences containing the D1 and D2 regions. In the Bayesian tree, two main clades were apparent: one clade containing Plasmopara pygmaea s. lat., Pl. sphaerosperma, Basidiophora, Bremia and Paraperonospora, and a clade containing all other Plasmopara species. Plasmopara is shown to be polyphyletic, and Pl. sphaerosperma is transferred to a new genus, Protobremia, for which also the oospore characteristics are described. Within the core Plasmopara clade, all collections originating from the same host family except from Asteraceae and Geraniaceae formed monophyletic clades; however, higher-level phylogenetic relationships lack significant branch support. A sister group relationship of Pl. sphaerosperma with Bremia lactucae is highly supported. -

The study area encompasses 2,200 ha of forests, where 769 segments were inventoried, and 46,886 single records about presence of vascular plant species were catalogued. We found 612 species (incl. subspecies and hybrids), out of which 514 were herbs, 98 were woody plants, 113 were endangered species and 170 were adventive species. The average area of a segment is 2.86 ha. The mean number of species per segment is 60.97 in a range of 4–151. Key words: biodiversity, vascular plants, floodplain forest, forest district Tvrdonice, Czech Republic INTRODUCTION Formations of floodplain forests in Europe are classified as azonal; however, their vegetation differs in particular parts of Europe both in its physiognomy and species composition (Bohn et al. 2003). Floodplains and floodplain forests in alluvia of large rivers are dynamic ecosystems, which are subject to fast changes in the temporal as well as spatial sense (Klimo et al. 2008). They are relatively young communities, as regards their development, and are affected by two main ecological factors – more or less cyclic flooding and a high level of the groundwater (Maděra et al.
