Kids 14 and under Free History In 1959 it was determined that the Port Wakefield circuit was unsuitable for the scheduled 1961 Australian Grand Prix. With new high standard motor racing circuits being built interstate it was decided a new race circuit closer to Adelaide was required. With the sale of the RAAF's 24 Squadron operational air base at Mallala to a group of motorsport enthusiasts, the Mallala Motorsport Park was born, hosting its Premier Race meeting on 19th August 1961. Since that time Mallala has hosted everything from the Australian Drivers' Championship, drifting championships and burnout comps, to the Australian Touring Car Championship (including V8 Supercars). The RAAF base at Mallala was built in 1941 Meet at the Victoria Hotel Car park to depart at 9.15am Bendigo Swap Meet th 13-14 November 2021 Cancelled The rumble of classic cars will return to Yankalilla for the Yankalilla Classic Motor Show on Sunday, November 21st, 2021 to be held at the Yankalilla Showgrounds. One of the recommendations was to use a product Waterless Coolantin the engine. So, at a cost of over $500 a 20 litre drum was procured. This was primarily about not allowing corrosion to occur particularly between the sleeve and the block. The first drama was before we even ran the engine, the radiator started to weep, so definitely escapist stuff as we had tested the radiator with water over a week before installing in the car. So, the radiator went up to NatRad and after a week was returned and reinstalled with the miracle compound. However, we had some really odd results when running the car. We had temperatures of 110C in the top of the radiator and 20C at the bottom. It was like the coolant wasn’t circulating, but we knew the radiator wasn’t blocked. Whilst 110C isn’t a problem as the boiling point is much higher in the coolant, such a large disparity in temperature couldn’t be good for the car and we also thought it was interfering with the oil pressure. After discussions with the local representatives of Waterless Coolant, we came to the conclusion that its properties are such that it doesn’t thermo syphon in the same way as water-based coolants. The issue is that the car doesn’t run a water pump, apparently essential for the proper functioning of Waterless Coolant. Out came $500 of coolant, and in went a water based one. Temperature dropped to a max of 63C at the top of the radiator and mid 30’s at the bottom. We think we will have to put a blind on the rad to get it up a bit for a proper running temperature. Driven to Goolwa after Bay to Birdwood, started for first time this week after 10 months, no issues at all. Mechanically very good, with a sound motor and two new tires on front. Has driven on Austin 7 Club Border and Pre-War runs. A driving car, not a show and shine and put on my trailer car. Like driving your lounge chair up front and you can have Miss Daisy and her friends in back. Simon Mander 0422 111 447 For Sale 1952 Plymouth It was last run about 10 years ago. To my eye it looks very complete and straight, and I suspect with tyres, battery and fuel (and a good wash) it would be a really good driver. Bumpers were re-chromed some years ago, and are sitting on the back seat. Interior is really good, seats are too good to be original. There are a lot of spares including a spare engine (and a gearbox which may or may not be correct) The contact is Jill on 0403 305 912, and the car is in a shed in Magill. Linden Park 1923/1927 Austin 7 Gordon England Brooklands Replica A beautiful light car that accurately replicates a significant Austin 7 racing car built by English aviator E.C Gordon England in the 1920’s. This accurate and well-built replica is a culmination of decades of collecting period correct parts. The aluminium body was one of a batch constructed by noted Scottish ex- pert Tom Abernathy(number TA8) that was imported by myself in the eight- ies. The car was assembled around this body to a high standard by Grant Cowie and his team at Up the Creek Workshop in Campbells Creek, Victoria, Austral- ia. A vintage Austin chassis was fitted with a set of early 6 inch brakes, brand new wheels with centres spun from solid material, a three speed close ratio John Needham Austin 7 gearbox and vintage differential. The very early engine (no. 1405 – August 1923) was built by Grant Cowie to a very high standard for proper motoring. Fitted with a pressure fed English ‘Phoenix’ crankshaft and rods, sports camshaft, period correct extractor ex- haust system and a Bob Booth magneto/distributor conversion. Original mag- neto can be supplied if desired. The carburettor is an updraft ‘barrel throttle’ bronze 30mm Solex that is correct for this model.
