Allan Holdsworth Schille Reshaping Harmony
BJØRN ALLAN HOLDSWORTH SCHILLE RESHAPING HARMONY Master Thesis in Musicology - February 2011 Institute of Musicology| University of Oslo 3001 2 2 Acknowledgment Writing this master thesis has been an incredible rewarding process, and I would like to use this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to those who have assisted me in my work. Most importantly I would like to thank my wonderful supervisors, Odd Skårberg and Eckhard Baur, for their good advice and guidance. Their continued encouragement and confidence in my work has been a source of strength and motivation throughout these last few years. My thanks to Steve Hunt for his transcription of the chord changes to “Pud Wud” and helpful information regarding his experience of playing with Allan Holdsworth. I also wish to thank Jeremy Poparad for generously providing me with the chord changes to “The Sixteen Men of Tain”. Furthermore I would like to thank Gaute Hellås for his incredible effort of reviewing the text and providing helpful comments where my spelling or formulations was off. His hard work was beyond what any friend could ask for. (I owe you one!) Big thanks to friends and family: Your love, support and patience through the years has always been, and will always be, a source of strength. And finally I wish to acknowledge Arne Torvik for introducing me to the music of Allan Holdsworth so many years ago in a practicing room at the Grieg Academy of Music in Bergen. Looking back, it is obvious that this was one of those life-changing moments; a moment I am sincerely grateful for. -

Recess Activities, Inc. Presents Gibby Haynes Paintings
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Recess Activities, Inc. Presents Gibby Haynes Paintings April 26 - June 1, 2011 Red Hook, Brooklyn, April 26, 2011—Gibby Haynes will begin two months of work at Recess’s new Brooklyn outpost as part of its signature program, Session. Haynes’ project will be the second iteration of Recess’s collaboration with Charlotte Kidd and Dustin Yellin from Kidd Yellin Studios in Red Hook. Recess’s original location at 41 Grand Street in SoHo will remain open; both spaces will be free and open to the public. During his premiere US solo presentation, Haynes will adapt the residency room at Kidd Yellin into a production studio for a series of abstract, geometric paintings. Known for his work as a musician in the group Butthole Surfers, Haynes will translate his intimate relationship with sound and the hardcore movement into visual vocabulary. On eight-foot square canvases, the artist will use bold, contrasting colors issuing from the center in echoing circles. Revolving like a record, the canvas becomes vinyl and the paint etches vibration. About the Artist: Gibby Haynes is an American musician, radio personality, painter and the lead singer of the group Butthole Surfers. He received a BA from Trinity University. His work has been featured in exhibitions at Robert Berman Gallery in Santa Monica California and The Station in Houston Texas. Haynes currently lives in Brooklyn, New York with his wife, Melissa, their daughter, and their Westie. Recess Activities at Kidd Yellin 133 Imlay Street Brooklyn, NY . -

Commission on Public Art inventory review online comment submissions The public comments in this document were collected from August 15 to September 5. They are in response to a call from Mayor Greg Fischer, encouraging the public to add their voice to the review of public art that can be interpreted to honor bigotry, discrimination, racism and/or slavery. 40204: I am not opposed to removing the Castleman statue. I would miss having a horse in the neighborhood, however, so if it could be replaced by another rider, perhaps Oliver Lewis and Aristides, the first KY Derby winners. That would be cool. Any statue with Confederate imagery should be removed. Period. 40299: We should not have public murals and statues of leaders of the confederacy. The bottom line is that these men of the confederacy fought to keep hatred, bigotry and racism alive. I don't want our city to have statues honoring these men, because I know Louisville is an inclusive community dedicated to bringing different folks together. 40212: Remove all statues glorifying these traitors. I can’t imagine what a PoC feels about these abominations. 40243: Please leave history ALONE... 40208: A democracy should have monuments celebrating the oppressed and not the oppressors. We need to tear down any monuments celebrating the Confederacy. I also think you should add to this list nude portraits, paintings objectifying women, and paintings featuring people in poverty. I would recommend going through the library and removing all books before 1975 and blocking all websites that involve actual thinking. History has been written, to ignore it is unwise. -

Download the Cure Albums Purchase the Cure: Ranking the Albums from 13 to 1
download the cure albums purchase The Cure: Ranking the Albums From 13 to 1. Just about every Cure album is worth picking up, and even those ranked lowest boast worthwhile moments. Here are their albums, spanning 29 years, presented from worst to best. Just about every Cure album is worth picking up, and even those ranked lowest boast worthwhile moments. Also worth noting is that the 13 studio albums do not tell the whole story. The Cure have released multiple live albums (the best are 1984’s Concert , 1991’s Entreat and 1993’s Show ), a kaleidoscopic remix collection (1990’s Mixed Up ), and dozens of diverse b-sides not available on any of the albums. The vast majority of those are included on the essential 2004 box-set Join the Dots: B-sides & Rarities 1978-2001 . As hardened fans will tell you, many of the Cure’s b- sides are every bit as strong as their album tracks and singles. Here are their albums, spanning 29 years, presented from worst to best. Obviously every Cure fan has their own take, and would end up with a different ranking. There are no right answers. A strong argument could be made for at least four of the Cure’s albums to be at the top. Regardless, it’s nice to be able to look back with some distance on the entire catalog to see where everything fits. The Cure’s fascinating musical legacy will endure for generations of new fans. 13. The Cure (2004) Somehow, Robert Smith got into his head the notion that it would be a good idea to work with producer Ross Robinson, known for his collaborations with Korn, Slipknot and, Gods help us, Limp Bizkit. -
