Date: 10th November 2015

Dear Sirs,

Active Travel, Pedestrian, Cycle and Disability Routes between Lornshill Academy and Cambus via Tullibody

Clackmannanshire Council has been looking at cycling and pedestrian accessibility, road safety and street lighting on the pavements and footpaths between Alloa, Tullibody and Cambus and will shortly begin work to provide an improved active travel route between Lornshill Academy and Cambus. Most of the work will be carried out over the next few months. The project will mainly involve widening existing roadside pavements but will also include the widening of two of the main paths through the Delph Pond parkland. Our aims are to;

 to provide Safer Routes to our Schools,  to improve road safety and community safety,  to provide wider, easier routes for wheelchairs and people with mobility challenges,  to give everyone better choices when making short journeys within and around Tullibody and Cambus, and  to provide a cycle route joining our schools, our community and which link with our nearby cycle routes to Alloa, Menstrie, Stirling and Glenochil Village.

The new route starts at the west end of Claremont and joins the Alloa - Tullibody road near Donaldson Avenue. It will continue on the south side of the road as far as the west edge of Lornshill Academy where it will cross the road onto the north side. An section of the route will be constructed between Ormiston Drive and the east access gate to the Academy by widening the existing pavement. Once into Tullibody the route will continue to Banchory Primary School where it will cross the road at the zebra crossing to then continue through the parkland to the north edge of Delph Pond. Cyclists and pedestrians will then be able to use Delph Road, Manor Crescent and Main Street to reach the Civic Centre. Improvements will also be made on Main Street with a new zebra crossing giving access to the Tron Court shops. From the Civic Centre the pavements and the path along the side of the football pitches will be widened to just beyond The Bryony. An important part of the project will be to upgrade the street lights to make the paths safer for use at night and during the winter evenings and early starts.

For next year we will be looking at how we can bring a path from Park Terrace down to the traffic lights crossing to reach Station Road in Cambus. We aim to make the slope of this new path sufficiently gentle for wheelchair use.

The works are likely to cause some minor delays to traffic and may inconvenience pedestrians during the construction periods. The works will be signposted in advance and care will be taken to minimise inconvenience and to provide alternatives where practical.
