It was great to meet and talk with you are curriculum night! Please complete and return the 4 forms that were included in your packet.

Curriculum: Reading: Our spelling/phonics pattern this week is on words with the end –le (the e is silent) and –ng. We will read and respond in various ways to short stories in our Superkids reader and non-fiction articles in our Superkids magazine. Our grammar focus will be nouns, verbs, and rhyming. Our writing focus for the next three weeks will be on writing an autobiography. I sent home a homework packet on Monday that can be returned each day or turned in all at once on Friday. If you would like your child to do more, please ask them to log on to ixl – language arts.

Math: My math class will continue our focus on addition strategies: counting on, adding doubles and near doubles, adding in any order, using addition to subtract, adding three numbers, related addition and subtraction facts (fact families) and making 10 to add. Math homework comes home daily (check homework folder). The homework reinforces what we did in class that day and should take less than 10 minutes. If you would like your child to do more, please ask them to log onto ixl-math.

Religion: This week our chapter is titled “God’s Word”. This chapter focuses on the Bible.

Social Studies: Our Scholastic News this week focuses on children’s author Mo Willems. We will discuss his writing process and sequencing.

Science: This week we are trying to visit the garden daily. On Monday, we sketched a “scientific diagram” of our garden with our new leek plants that we planted last week. We measured both our basil and rosemary and will continue measuring and comparing growth throughout the year.

Upcoming Events: September: 24 Picture day (wear uniforms): order forms were sent home last week 25 Free Dress Day (no ticket needed) – Last Friday of the month! 27 Mandatory Sacrament Meeting for Parents in St. Luke Gym at 10:15a.m. October: 2 No School (Teacher Excellence Day)

Magazine Sale: Please help support our school by participating in the magazine sale – the paperwork went home last Thursday. Our goal is for each student to sell at least 1 magazine subscription. Inside your magazine packet is a postcard with ducks on it; as your child sells magazines/gifts please send in the appropriate duck with your child’s name on it so they can claim their prize.

Comfort Letters: If you have not already done so, please send in a “comfort letter” that is addressed to your child. Thank you to those who have already returned your letter.

Homework Folder: Please make sure you child is checking their homework folder nightly and unloading any paperwork that does not need to return back to school.

Mandatory Sacrament Meeting for parents on Sunday, September 27th- at 10:15am in the gym (not the auditorium as previously mentioned). There will either be childcare available or you will be able to bring your child(ren) to the meeting.

Scholastic News Book Order: All student book orders are due by 9/30/15. Please order online. I have three orders already (Mathias, Tran and Skonier). Our class activation code is HJYZK at scholastic reading club. This is a great way to purchase books that target your child’s interest and are fairly inexpensive.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments or concerns. Have a super great week!
