EDWARD MILTON 12 CARNEY, PASTOR OF RIVERLAND HILLS BAPTIST 13 CHURCH, FOR TWENTY YEARS OF FAITHFUL MINISTRY 14 TO HIS CONGREGATION, AND TO WISH HIM MANY 15 MORE YEARS OF SERVICE TO OUR LORD. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 18 Representatives are pleased to learn that Dr. Edward Milton 19 Carney celebrated twenty years as senior pastor of Riverland Hills 20 Baptist Church on June 15, 2011; and 21 22 Whereas, Dr. Carney earned an associate degree from what is now 23 Anderson University and also earned a bachelor’s degree from 24 Mars Hill College in North Carolina. Subsequently, he received a 25 master of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological 26 Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and a doctor of ministry degree 27 from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisiana; 28 and 29 30 Whereas, together with his beloved wife, the former Susan Godley, 31 they reared two fine daughters, Erin Fennell and Brett Brown, and 32 they have been blessed with three wonderful grandchildren: Jack 33 Fennell, Avery Fennell, and Miles Fennell; and 34 35 Whereas, from 1978 to 1985, he served as a chaplain in the United 36 States Naval Reserve, rising to the rank of lieutenant commander; 37 and 38 39 Whereas, prior to coming to Riverland Hills, Pastor Carney served 40 as the pastor of Second Baptist Church in Manning, First Baptist 41 Church in Andrews, Highland Park Baptist Church in Hanahan, 42 and Ashley River Baptist Church in Charleston; and

[4385] 2 1 2 Whereas, since June 15, 1991, he has served Riverland Hills as the 3 senior pastor when the membership was almost eighteen hundred 4 persons, and today four and one-half thousand members call 5 Riverland Hills Baptist their church home; and 6 7 Whereas, under Dr. Carney’s leadership, Riverland Hills moved its 8 physical location in 2005 from a sixacre campus on St. Andrews 9 Road in Columbia to its current sixtyoneacre campus in Irmo, and 10 since then a new twostory educational building, a soccer field, 11 baseball field, and a field house have been added to the church 12 campus; and 13 14 Whereas, he has served as the president of the General Board of 15 the South Carolina Baptist Convention and on numerous 16 committees of the Convention; and 17 18 Whereas, Dr. Carney is not only the shepherd of his congregation, 19 but a stalwart defender of the Christian faith; and 20 21 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 22 Representatives are grateful for the twenty years of faithful 23 ministry that Dr. Carney has given to the congregation of 24 Riverland Hills Baptist Church, to his community, and to our God. 25 Now, therefore, 26 27 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 28 29 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 30 by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. Edward Milton Carney, 31 pastor of Riverland Hills Baptist Church, for twenty years of 32 faithful ministry to his congregation, and wish him many more 33 years of service to his Lord. 34 35 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 36 Dr. Edward Milton Carney. 37 XX 38
