THE LINDSAY GALLERY Course Outline for the Art in Everyone

Intro to Oil and Acrylic Painting through the Group of Seven Style Beginner to Intermediate

Instructor: RoseMarie Condon Date: Four Tuesdays, April 23 – May 14 Time: 6pm – 9pm Location: TBD Fee: $125 for Gallery Members, $140 for non-members for 12 hours of instruction

About the Instructor: Exploring, sketching and photographing the Canadian wilderness from coast to coast continually provides enormous inspiration for RoseMarie's paintings. Her rich palette and lively brush work combined with her understanding of composition and draftsmanship allow her to portray the natural world in a truthful, dramatic and realistic manner.

Hiking, camping, canoeing and rafting in wilderness areas allows RoseMarie to indulge her abiding fascination with rugged Canadian landscapes. Excursions to the Yukon, the Northwest Territories, rafting on the Nahanni and Tatshenshini Rivers as well as eight weeks in the High Arctic have given her a unique insight into the vastness of Canada, her fragile eco systems, flora, fauna and cultures.

In addition to the extreme wilderness, RoseMarie also enjoys painting rural towns and landscapes, expressing herself with a sensitive and accomplished style using oils, acrylics or watercolours.

Born and educated in Toronto she studied watercolour and oil painting, composition, museum studies and perspective with Archibald (Dan) Logan. RoseMarie studied graphic art disciplines, colour theory, design and rendering with Vince McGill as well as layout, life studies and illustration with Fred Savard and history of art, sculpture and anatomy with William Clements.

Course Content: Learn to paint like the iconic Group of Seven, while learning about the strengths and weaknesses of the two media – oil and acrylic paints. The differences in handling, mixing and applying paint will be discussed and practiced, as well the stages in developing a painting; how to simplify the landsacape and create a good composition, as well as adjusting colour and technique to create depth of field in a painting.
