MSFA Safety Committee Meeting Minutes
The MSFA Safety Committee Meeting was called to order at 10:00 AM. on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at the MFRI headquarters in College Park. The Pledge to the Flag was led by Chairman John Fisher. Thirteen Safety committee members and no Guests were present. Safety Committee: Present: Chair John Fisher, Vice Chair, Dave Garnice and Hoby Howell, Members: Janet Fisher, James Kohl, Garry Mc Ginnis, Thomas Musgrove, Franklin Roth, Barbara Steiner, Dan Stevens, Bobbie Stevens, Association Officer: President John Denver Liaison: John Roth Training President: President Denver welcomed and thanked everyone for being here stating there is a lot going with the committees this year. The Safety Committee is very important for the Safety of our firefighters but more importantly i get our firefighters home safely The number of Line of Duty Deaths nationwide are down and President Denver appreciates our work in helping make this happen. We should be encouraging youth into the association because they are the future of the organization and the fire service President Denver spoke about the grant for recruitment and retention more forthcoming on this Reported on the retreat that the Officers attended with other leaders of the fire service and how it will set the pace of the association and the fire service in Maryland Things are looking up.
Chair report: Opened the floor to how and where the committee would meet this year, After a long discussion motion made by Dave Garnice second by Dan Stevens to meet every other month and to continue emailing information out to the members. passed by unanimous vote This will allow committee members to attend their county association meeting. The meetings for this year will be October 21 2012, January 20 2013, March 17 2013, May 19 2013 at 10 AM at MFRI Headquarters College Park with the final meeting Sunday June 16 2013 in Ocean City the time and place to be announced. Each member is assigned a county association to report. See attachment. The goal is to attend each county association at least 2 times this year and report back to the safety committee: 1) ask what can the safety committee do for their association 2)Continue to get the safety word out After the discussion it was decided an email with what information that should be discussed at the associations will be forth coming The committee will work on making a Safety Officer Directory. We want to know if there is a County Safety Committee and who is the contact. Also, what companies have a safety officer and their contact. From this we hope to set up a network of safety officer and have a printed summary at the convention in 2013. A discussion followed on how to bring the information to the companies. It was decided to use the national trends and tie them together with our state. Dave will put the tire shelf life information in the Trumpet.
Programs: Dave Meaders Is working with Mario Melfa on a program for the wrist bands.
Convention: Hoby Howell Reported things went well at the 2012 convention and thanks all for their help. Hoby will be going to the convention after action on August 22 in Odenton.
