Colony Recruitment and Application Project

You have been appointed as trustee for the colony of Georgia. It is your job to recruit colonists. Using the notes to help you with the reasons the colony was established and who would be selected as colonists. Design a brochure or flyer (Microsoft Publisher) using this information to help recruit new members. Then, again using the information gathered regarding the qualifications of colonists, create an application (Microsoft Word) that you will use to screen applicants. In groups, you will be given make-believe applicants to review. For each, you will explain why the applicant was selected or rejected. Be sure to explain why his/her presence in the colony would help or hinder the development of the new colony. (We will do this on Tuesday at the end of class)

To Do in the project room (Friday, Monday, 1st half of Tuesday):

1. Make a brochure or flyer to get people in Great Britain to want to apply to go on the trip to the new colony of Georgia.

2. Create an application for the want-to-be colonists to complete. Be sure to include things like their name, age, family, work experience/training, religious beliefs, their ability to work on a farm, their knowledge of building, and any other information you think you should know about them before you decide if they should go to the New World or not.

You will turn in three (3) things to me by the end class on Tuesday.

1. Your group’s flyer or brochure.

2. Your group’s application for people to complete in order for them to get to go to the colony.

3. Your list of accepted or rejected people with the explanation about why they would be good colonists or why they cannot be a colonist. I will give you the made-up people for the group to review.
