COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will study all aspects of basic vocal techniques leading to expressive singing, self assured vocal performance, sound musicianship, musical interpretation of songs and good stage presence. Each student will be assessed and evaluated at the beginning of the semester for their personal level of competency. TEXT: No specific text will be required or assigned. Students may be asked to purchase anthologies of vocal repertoire appropriate to his or her level of skills and/or development.

All voice students are expected to attend this student recital. The tentative date for the summer semester recital is July 26.

It is each student’s responsibility to make arrangements with a staff accompanist for any student performance. Students should schedule regular rehearsal times with their accompanist and provide documentation to the instructor. Terri Graves is available at 918-576-1324.

OUTSIDE LISTENING: With the instructor’s assistance, each student may develop a listening list of appropriate vocal repertoire and of appropriate singers. Documentation must be provided to verify completion of the listening list.

The repertoire studied will include classic art songs (English, Italian, German and/or French), oratorio and/or opera arias, classic sacred songs, and songs from musical theatre. Syllabus: Private Voice Summer 2013 page 2

Each student is expected to learn and memorize no fewer than three pieces in the semester. This number may be adjusted at the discretion of the instructor to allow time to focus on specific vocal techniques or areas of concern.

GRADES:

Attendance is critical to progressive development for the student. Weekly attendance at all scheduled lessons is expected of all students. Unexcused absences will affect the final grade. The grade will be based on the student’s consistent effort, over-all improvement; repertoire learned and memorized, performances, outside listening, documented rehearsal schedule and attendance.

ATTENDANCE POLICY:

Regular attendance is expected of all students. If a student decides not to complete the course, it is the student’s responsibility to withdraw from the class. The last date to withdraw from a course is listed in all registrar material and in the College catalogue. It is not the professor’s responsibility to withdraw a student from a course. However, the instructor may submit an administrative withdrawal (AW), in the case of excessive absences.
