Please read the information below regarding the CHS plagiarism policy and the turnitin.com program:

The CHS plagiarism policy states that if a student plagiarizes an assignment, test/quiz, or essay he/she will:  receive a failing grade for the assignment and parent(s) will be contacted (first offense during the school year)  dropped from the class with a failing grade (second and subsequent offenses during the school year) Plagiarism includes:  working with another student on an individual assignment  using another person’s (student, adult, author) words or ideas without proper documentation  copying and pasting without proper documentation  submitting work that has been rewritten by someone else during the editing process

The English Department uses the turnitin.com program for the electronic submission of written work, as do many colleges and universities. Therefore, it is important to note and understand the following:  the program will compare student work to the internet and notify the teacher when phrases, sentences, and/or paragraphs are the same  the program will compare student work to other work within the turnitin.com database  the program will provide the links to the internet sites that have been flagged and it will provide the paper(s) that has (have) been flagged for comparison  if there is too much text that is the same without the proper MLA documentation, this will constitute plagiarism. If the text is documented/cited correctly, there will not be an issue.  all students will be required to electronically submit their writing assignments (as deemed by the teacher) to turnitin.com.  the assignment grade will not be entered into the grade book until the student electronically submits the assignment.  students will also submit a printed copy of the assignment to the teacher in addition to the electronic submission.
