Emerson String Quartet, Flip Fabrique-Catch Me! and David Sedaris, humorist and author start the Staller Center for the Arts season at Stony Brook University

September 5, 2017, Stony Brook, NY -- Looking for a special date night? Want to do something new with your children? Looking for live entertainment close to home? Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University is featuring unique performances starting in October. The entire season through May 2018 is online at stallercenter.com.

Emerson Quartet The Staller Center season begins with a concert by the Emerson String Quartet, performing on Wednesday, October 11 at 8:00 pm in the 400-seat Recital Hall. The Emerson will have returned to the U.S. after acclaimed concerts in Austria; Brazil; and Colombia. They continue as Quartet in Residence at Stony Brook University and then tour once again.

The Emerson Quarter’s October concert features pieces by Beethoven and Shostakovich. An all-Beethoven program by Emerson is scheduled for Thursday, December 7. Tickets are $48.

Flip Fabrique- Catch Me! The young acrobats of Flip Fabrique bring their show “Catch Me!” to Staller Center Main Stage on Saturday, October 11 at 4:00 pm. Their circus skills, learned from performers from Cirque du Soleil and Cirque Eloize, include tricks that take the audience’s breath away. Tickets are $20 for this family entertainment.

David Sedaris David Sedaris, the award-winning humorist and bestselling author, comes to Staller Center Main Stage on Friday, October 20 at 8:00 pm. Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. His new book, Theft by Finding, is a collection from his diaries, 1977-2002. Tickets are $48.

Collin Carr, Bach Suites Colin Carr presents a rare musical experience with Six Suites for Unaccompanied Cello on Saturday, October 21 at 7:00 pm in the Recital Hall. The Suites are by , and were popularly launched by Pablo Casals in the 1930s. Master cellists have followed to take on the music’s complexities. Refreshments will be provided during the two intermissions of this unique three-hour concert experience. Tickets are $46.

Tango Buenos Aires Tango Buenos Aires brings a dramatic and sensual dance performance to Staller Center Main Stage on Saturday, October 28 at 8:00 pm. Tango Buenos Aires is known as one of the most authentic representatives of the tango today. Tickets are $40 for the performance.

Stephanie Quayle Country singer/songwriter Stephanie Quayle comes to Staller Center’s Recital Hall Friday, November 3 at 8:00 pm. Rolling Stone magazine noted “she is a child of country radio equally fluent in nostalgic and airwave-friendly guitar pop.” Enjoy this rising star as she captures the heart of storytelling with guitar and piano. Tickets are $38.

Martial Artists The Martial Artists and Acrobats of Tianjin, People’s Republic of China come to Staller Center Main Stage on Saturday, November 11 at 8:00 pm as part of their new North American tour in 2017.

The group presents highlights from international festivals and competitions, among them: Monte Carlo Circus Festival in Monaco, Russian International Circus Festival, and the China International Circus Festival in Zhuhai, China. The evening is in honor of the inauguration of the China Center at Stony Brook University and the 10th Anniversary of the Confucius Institute at Stony Brook. Tickets are $42.

Sons of Serendiip A musical group of four friends, Sons of Serendip, perform on Saturday, November 18 at 8:00 pm. The unique combination of harp, piano, cello and voice made them a favorite on “America’s Got Talent.” Hear gospel/classical/neo-soul/ R&B fusion from this unique group. Tickets are $42.

Starry Nights – Fall “Starry Nights,” coming to the Recital Hall on Tuesday, November 21 at 8:00 pm, features artists from the Department of Music who are stars of the music world. Hagai Shaham, violin; Jennifer Frautschi, violin; Nicholas Cords, viola; and Colin Carr, cello, will be among the performers. The program will be announced on stallercenter.com. Tickets are $38.

John Pizzarelli & Jessica Molaskey – Holiday Concert For the holiday season, John Pizzarelli and Jessica Molaskey bring Holiday with the Swing 7 Band to Staller Center’s Main Stage on Saturday, December 2 at 8:00 pm. With John Pizzarelli on guitar, this delightful husband and wife duo’s concert is a great way to celebrate the holidays. Tickets are $46.

SBSO Concerts by Stony Brook Symphony Orchestra (SBSO) composed of Doctor of Musical Arts musicians from the Department of Music, present concerts on October 7 and November 4 at 8:00 pm on the Staller Center Main Stage. Visit stonybrook.edu/music to view the program. Tickets are $20 for the SBSO.
