On Tuesday 19 Feb, I made a motion to the Executive Committee asking to be allowed to go forward with our plan. The motion passed, and now it is time to put the plan in motion. The plan calls for laying out a grid pattern on the south mooring field with the lines being 120 ft apart both north, south, and east, west. Moorings would be placed on the intersections, resulting in each mooring being 120 ft from the next. The 120 ft spacing was calculated using the length of the largest boats in the belonging to Club members. An example our boat LEDGELIGHT is 43 ft long, with a 15 ft pennant as prescribed by our mooring guide length you end up with a length of 58 ft from the mooring ball. We rounded up to 60 ft to make the math easy. This gives us a swinging diameter of 120 ft. By placing the moorings 120 ft apart, no two boats should ever be able to swing to stern and come in contact or swing into any other boat. There Picture perfect day last fall in the Chowder Series. are several advantages to this plan. Currently there are Page 6 Page 7 MainSheet The Newsletter of Thames Yacht Club march 2013
