To Develop Skills That Cover Dissection and Experimentation

Name:______Date:______Period:______Frog Dissection

Objective:  To identify the body systems of the frog including: muscular, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, skeletal and reproductive.  To develop skills that cover dissection and experimentation.

Materials:  Dissection set (scalpel, scissors, forceps, needles)  Dissection pan  Frog (croak!)

Question: What do you think you will Observations: Examine the exterior discover when doing the dissection? (outside) of the frog. Draw what you see and identify its parts.

INTERAL ANATOMY Procedures: 1. Pin your frog to the pan with dorsal (back) side down by placing pins through the 4 limbs. 2. Examine the inside of the mouth. Q: How is the frog’s mouth similar to a human’s mouth? ______3. Take your scissors and carefully make an incision from the throat to where the legs meet. (*BE CAREFUL AND ONLY CUT THE SKIN OF THE FROG!) 4. Make your second incision across the shoulders and across the lower abdomen. 5. Peel back the skin flaps. 6. Remove a pin from the 7. Carefully cut through the muscles of the abdomen the same way you made the skin incisions. 8. Find the liver and remove it. 9. Analysis and Conclusion: Name:______Date:______Period:______1. How is the frog’s internal anatomy similar to a human’s internal anatomy? ______

2. Do you think frogs can be used in experiments to find cures for diseases in humans? Explain your answer. ______

3. What did you enjoy most about the dissection? (Extra points if you suck up to me.) ______
