AGREEMENT ON CONDUCTING RESEARCH
USING THE UNIVERSITY’S PREMISES AND EQUIPMENT
1. The purpose of the agreement This agreement is made by and between a person conducting research on a scholarship, as a visiting researcher or otherwise without an employment relationship with the University of Jyväskylä and a unit of the University of Jyväskylä on conducting research using the University’s premises and equipment and on the rights and responsibilities related to research.

In this agreement a grant researcher means a person who is conducting research with a personal research grant or a scholarship granted by, for example, a foundation or a university for research that is conducted at the University of Jyväskylä. A grant researcher is not in an employment relationship with the University. a visiting doctoral student or an exchange student means a foreign person who has applied for a short-term right to study as a doctoral student and who has been admitted the status of a visiting doctoral student or an exchange student. A visiting doctoral student or an exchange student does not have the right to complete a degree at the University of Jyväskylä. The department must register the visit according to the instructions of the University’s International Office so that the University can to report it to CIMO. a visiting researcher means a person who conducts research primarily in another Finnish or foreign university or research institute or has the right to pursue postgraduate studies in another Finnish or foreign university. Research conducted by a visiting researcher using the premises and equipment of the University of Jyväskylä is temporary in duration and includes cooperation with the researchers of the University of Jyväskylä. A visiting researcher is not in an employment relationship with the University of Jyväskylä and he/she does not have the right to complete a degree at the University of Jyväskylä. The department must register the research visit in TUTKA.

4. The status and responsibilities of a researcher Grant researcher’s ID card Grant researcher’s ID card is granted to researcher who works in the premises of the University of Jyväskylä and who has made an agreement for carrying out research using the facilities and equipment of the University of Jyväskylä. The ID card entitles to staff-price lunches in the Sonaatti cafeterias at the University and to the University Sports offering in accordance with the price list. The card also works as a library card in the University Library after it has been activated in the library.
Responsible conduct of research The University of Jyväskylä has agreed to follow the guidelines of the National Advisory Board on Research Integrity for Responsible conduct of research and procedures for handling allegations of misconduct in Finland 2012 (http://www.tenk.fi/en/resposible-conduct-research-guidelines). By signing this agreement, the researcher agrees to follow the principles of responsible conduct of research set in the guidelines as well as the University’s ethical principles, the ethical principles of publishing at the University of Jyväskylä (https://www.jyu.fi/hallinto/strategia/en) and the principles of research data management at the University of Jyväskylä (https://www.jyu.fi/tutkimus/tutkimusaineistot). Intellectual property rights According to the Finnish Copyright Act (404/1961), the copyright belongs to the creator of a work. Grant researchers/visiting researchers are not under the Act on the Right in Inventions Made at Higher Education Institutions (369/2006), because they are not employed by the University. Therefore, intellectual property rights to the results achieved independently by a grant researcher/visiting researcher belong to him/her personally unless otherwise agreed. Confidentiality The researcher must take into account that while working in the University’s premises he/she may get hold of confidential information. The researcher may not take advantage of or pass on any confidential information. In an uncertain situation, the researcher must consult the head of the department to confirm the nature of the information and possibilities for its use. Using the University’s computer network When receiving username and password for the University’s computer network, the researcher commits him/herself to follow the rules for using the University’s computer systems and network. Premises and equipment Premises designated for the researcher by the head of the department are meant for conducting research specified in section 3. Using the premises for other purposes must be agreed on separately with the head of the department. The researcher agrees to be careful when working in the University’s premises and using the University’s equipment. Research and publication data system TUTKA Information for the annual reports of the University (research projects and funding received for them, publications, visits abroad, etc.) is gathered to the TUTKA system. The researcher is responsible for registering the annual report data of his/her scholarly work to the TUTKA system. Insurances A grant researcher/visiting researcher is not insured by the University nor is he/she within the occupational health care of the University. The researcher should take care of the necessary insurances

The University’s property insurances cover material damage caused by a person conducting research without an employment relationship with the University and the University’s liability insurance covers material damage and bodily injuries caused to outside persons by University’s operations. Doctoral students are also protected by a statute of compensating accidents for students (851/1948). According to this statute, an accident occurred while working in a laboratory, field work or any other kind of practical training is considered an occupational accident and compensation may be paid accordingly. Compensation is paid only if the accident is caused by conditions typical to the form of studies in question. The insurance does not apply to theoretical lectures or trips. Compensation can be applied from the If Insurance Company through the University’s accident contact person.
5. Premises, equipment and services available The department allows the researcher to use the following premises, equipment and services:

6. Other benefits The head of the unit who has signed this contract is responsible for that no payments or benefits that will cause the University an obligation to withhold taxes or other financial obligations stipulated in legislation are paid to the contracted person on the basis of this contract.
7. Term of the contract This agreement is valid for – A contracting party has the right to annul the contract if the other contracting party substantially breaches the obligations under this contract.
8. Duplicates of the contract Two identical copies are made of this agreement, one for each contracting party. The University’s copy of the contract is delivered to the Registry Office of the University for archiving.
