Question: “In the State of Michigan is a leather firefighting helmet acceptable? It meets OSHA standards.”
Answer: MIOSHA’s General Industry Safety Standard, Part 74. “Fire Fighting,” adopts the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) 1971 Standard on Protective Ensemble for Structural Fire Fighting 2000 Edition. As long as helmets for firefighting meet the specifications in NFPA 1971 and the requirements in MIOSHA Part 74. they will be acceptable for use.
