Animal Farm Newspaper Project
Names: ______Pretend that you work in Napoleon’s information office. You are going to create a newspaper to send to animals on surrounding farms that tells how great it is to live under animalism on Animal Farm. For Step #2 the writings need to be based on details from the novel.
Steps: 1. Create a newspaper that reports the key events of the novel. Include stories, editorials, classifieds, and/or comics (satires). Pictures should have captions, and stories and articles should have headlines. 2. Think of a good title for your newspaper. You need to decorate the cover page with appropriate phrases and images from the novel which you need to reflect upon on the back in a section called “About the Cover”. 3. Choose four of the following: a. Write a feature article that describes the events of the Rebellion: how it happened, who was all involved, and the results. b. Write an article explaining animalism that includes the commandments, the Sunday meetings and talks about Beasts of England. c. Write a feature story about one of your leaders Napoleon or Snowball. Your feature should be about 150 words long and tell something interesting about Napoleon’s/Snowball’s life, his struggles, or how he protects the animals. d. Provide an advice column on how to start one’s own animal farm. e. Write a feature story of your own creation. It could include the future plan, sports, recreation, arts, leisure, or the retirement plan on Animal Farm. 4. Include at least two pictures of events on Animal Farm for your newspaper other than the cover. (Pictures can be stick figures.)
Required pieces: Newspaper Title, Date, Headlining Story with picture and 3 additional stories that relate to Animal Farm. Don’t forget your bylines (can be made up people)!
Make sure that both partners’ names end up on the back side of your newspaper. Be creative, have some fun, paper and coloring materials on the side table.
Scoring The newspaper project will be worth 40 points.
