Northumberland OPP - Operations Matters of Foot Patrol- 106.50 hours Interest Directed Patrol- 27.25 hours th On May 16 at 6:40 p.m. officers were called to an apartment on Bridge St W in Campbellford to a family dispute. The attending officers soon realized that the call was much more serious than first thought. One of the involved parties had earlier attempted suicide by discharging a 12 gauge shotgun to his chin but the gun was grabbed by his girlfriend and the round struck a wall. The suspect then made his way to the river and jumped in but returned to the apartment a short time later. Officers made a gunpoint arrest and have laid several charges including careless use of a firearm and unauthorized possession of a firearm. The 36 year old male was held for a bail hearing. On May 21st at 7:40 p.m. Northumberland O.P.P. attended with Trent Hills Fire to the alleyway beside the Salvation Army Thrift Store to a report of cardboard boxes on fire. There was considerable damage to the side of the building and the fire appears to have been deliberately set. On May 26th Police were called after the fact by the IDA Pharmacy in Campbellford after they reviewed surveillance footage of a theft in their store on the previous day. They observed a female known to staff stealing hair and cosmetic products. A 32 year old local woman was arrested and charged with theft under and fail to comply with conditions of an undertaking. She was being held for a bail hearing. There was another Microsoft scam to report this month in Trent Hills. An 80 year old female victim called police to report a male with an Indian accent phoned her reporting problems with her computer. She gave him access to her computer thus allowing him to retrieve banking information. He demanded she also send him $500. by way of Western Union to make the necessary repairs. Fortunately she called her bank immediately and appears no money was lost. A Seymour Twp. man reported to police someone had put sand in his gas tank of his 2012 Dodge Ram. The vehicle started to idle and run rough and a local garage found the sand in his tank. Service on the vehicle could run as high as $2000. The complainant operates cottages in the area and did have a run in with one of his renters recently but has no proof at this time.
