Meeting Minutes – 12/14/2017

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Harold Hogan, President. There were 17 members in attendance for the meeting. The pre-meeting fly tying session commenced at 4:30 PM and was hosted by Steve Banakas. For the cold winter months, three small, dark fly patterns were tied: Skull & Bones, Midge Pupa L2HF and Higa’s SOS. Details about the flies can be found on the Forum. The evening’s program was presented by Mainspring Conservation Trust representatives, Cris Weatherford (Development Director) and Sara Posey (Murphy NC Office Coordinator). Mainspring is celebrating its 20th year as stewards of the southern Blue Ridge which includes the Little Tennessee and Hiawassee River basins. Their primary mission is conservation, restoration and connection (education). Cris and Sara presented an informative slide show on Mainspring’s history, mission and vision as well as updates on the recent purchase of the 50-acre in-hold at Fires Creek as well as the conservation trust established for the 30-acre Tiger Farm in the city of Hayesville with 1300’ frontage on the Hiawassee River. Both of these projects ensure that these lands will never be divided and/or developed.
