Executive MBA Class of 2008 HEC Lausanne Entreprise & Society Evaluation

Best aspects of this class

1. stimule thinking 2. the enthusiasm of the proff 3. The best university teacher I ever had!!! Very inspiring Guido was extremely linking subjects like ethics, business, society, history etc. 4. use of cases studies, concrete and real examples, applications immediately visible and understandable, free talk of Palazzo, mix of teaching methods used, personal experience 5. Learn how to bullshit people 6. Last session of personal ethics was very interesting 7. Good perspective on tomorrow's world 8. how Guido proved us that everybody may have an unethical behaviour depending on the situation. 9. Studying company's CSR reports. 10. The fact that at the end of the course we will be able to read between the lines of a CSR report. 11. Many real life example, pragmatic approach, support of video and group works 12. the fact that it is included in the MBA! the professor, really passionate and knowledgeable 13. Prof Palazzo is very good and knows how to teach in a very informative, interactive and funny way. 14. Mr. Pallazo made us aware of ethical dilemmas in business. Discussions were very interesting 15. * Different games and debates organized in the class (Amnesty Discussion, ...) * Analysis of the CSR reports 16. Homework 17. Teaching people to consider both sides of the coin and not to just believe the face value of companies claims. The physiological approach as to how peoples behaviour can change given the context will be something that all of the class will keep in mind in the future. The argument were balanced 18. We have learned to look at business from a different point of view. I appreciated the fact that Mr. Palazzo did not tried to tell us that "profit is bad", but that we can make profit, even a lot, being responsible. If we will apply in our business life one tenth of what we have learned we will be among the best "responsible managers" in the world :) 19. Help us to deepen our thinking about business and firms. Broaden the scope of our study. 20. To show the analysis of ethical value chain 21. Good to give a different view on the companies and not only to look at the profit

1 Aspects of this class to improve

1. he is a bit extremist 2. Not enough time to discuss the individual work. 3. give more references on possibilities to deepen the subject 4. maybe it is a bit too rhetorical... 5. - The most interesting and fascinating part is not relevant to my professional life. 6. The slides were not complete enough 7. 2 times a whole day lecture is a bit too much (why not always 1/2 days). 8. As always with interesting courses one would want more. I would say that this course requires a serious interest in our modern world 9. External speaker was not really good 10. it was difficult at the beginning to have the feeling that every company is evel. Or at least that is the feeling I had. I thought that with my values and my business culture I did not need this course 11. * Maybe shorten certain talks. Listening during 2-3 hours is a bit long 12. N/A 13. Lots of question raised... yet only to few there were answers 14. Perhaps a little too much time spend on The nazi regime. It may have been particularly painful for some members of the class. It should be kept as a subject but just not so much time to drive the point home. 15. Sort of "philosophy of business". Are these ethical values global or only western ones ? To be improved : ethics competition between firms 16. Nothing. 17. Should not be at the same time as Human resources and Business Information systems. Too many soft sciences together! To have his wife on another class (HR). Conflit of interest issue!
