In-Class Monday: self-correct; syllabication-break into syllables. Tuesday: Select five of the re words and five of the sym/syn words. Look them up and indicate the part of speech. Wednesday: Chose the bolded re words and sym/syn words. Write a dictionary entry for each. Include an expanded sentence for each entry. Thursday: Select ten words from the list. Break them into syllables. With a partner, discuss the vowel sounds and explain to each other why the sounds are either short or long. If the sound is neither, what could it be? Look at all syllables. Homework Monday: Part One-Complete the Word Study re chart. Notice when the prefix has the long or short sound. Make a claim explaining when/why the prefix is long or short. Part Two-Notice the sym/syn words. The prefix vowel sound is the short i. Find three other sym/syn words. Do they also contain the short i sound (prefix)? Write a claim explaining your thinking.
