Ocean: The whole body of saltwater that covers nearly three fourths of the Earth’s surface.
Gulf: An extension of the sea partly surrounded by land, larger than a bay.
Bay: a coastal indentation of the sea or a lake into the land.
Strait: a stretch of water joining two larger bodies of water, narrower than a channel.
Sea level: the elevation of oceans and seas, land elevation is measured above or below sea level.
River: Any stream of freshwater flowing from an upland source into a body of water or another river.
Cataract: a large, steep waterfall
Tributary: A river that flows into a larger river.
Source: A spring, lake or other body of water that is a place where a river begins.
Mouth: The point where a river empties into another body of water.
Delta: an area of land formed by deposits at the mouth river.
Desert: an area of land with little rainfall or vegetation.
Plateau: A large elevated area of flat land.
Valley: A long, low area, usually with a river flowing through it and often lying between mountains or hills.
Plain: A large area of generally flat or gently rolling land.
Island: A body of land completely surrounded by water.
Peninsula: A long piece of land surrounded on three sides by water.
Isthmus: A narrow strip of land that connects tow larger bodies of land.
Mountain range: A row of connected mountains.
Floodplain: Plain bordering a river and made of soil deposited during floods.
