Team Primo was last year's runner-up to the Tahitians who dominate the Molokai Hoe. The runners-up followed about a half minute later: Hui Lanakila (2:58.24), Lanikai (3:00.08), Team Livestrong (3:00.44) and in fifth, Outrigger Canoe Club (3:04.15). Hawaiian Kanaktion, a nucleus of former Hui Lanakila paddlers, finished first in a time of 3:11.35, edging Waiki ki Beach Boys (3:12.25) ace Red and five-time defending Na Wahine 0 Ke Traci Phillips, Donna Kahakui, Malia Kamisugi·Pietsch, Anella Kai champion, Team Bradley of Hawaiian Borges, Mary Smolenski, Jane Canoe Club (3:14.04). Stevens, Angie Giancaterino, Fifty-seven crews, including a junior crew Marisa Wriston, Jaimie Kinard. and a lone koa crew, struggled through windy and choppy conditions off Kailua and Waimanalo, then rode the trade winds and rolling surf after turning around Makapu'u Point. Outrigger's women entered four crews. Team Red was fourth overall in 3:21.59, Team White finished in 3:42.29, and Team Blue, a crew of undaunted novices, finished ace White Kristin Lee, Jul ia Fiedler, Linda in 4:01.24. For the past 82 yea rs, Bill has been in volved in a broad range of Club sports including pad dling, surfing, and volleyball; from 1949 to 1951 he served as Club Captain. Bill is presently an active mem ber of t he Historical Committee. "Coach Evan", Jan Newhart's photo of Evan Rhodes that appeared on the cover of the OCC magazine in Jan uary 2009, was accepted in the photo portrait competi tion "Faces of Hawaii".
