New for 2018

 Acer griseum x maximowiczianum ‘Cinnamon Girl’ – New hybrid Paperbark with outstanding year around interest. This has cool fissured and peeling brown bark and clean foliage turning brilliant orange/red in the fall. Easy to grow and adaptable for use in most garden locations. Grows 20-25 feet tall and wide.  Cornus x ‘Rosey Teacups’ - A new disease resistant dogwood with clean foliage and excellent pink early summer bloom. The are cupped up a bit for an attractive and unique look. Use as a nice specimen tree in the landscape located in sun to part shade. Grows 15 to 20 feet tall and wide.  Cornus kousa ‘Scarlet Fire’ – Outstanding Dogwood out of the Rutgers breeding program. Disease resistant with bright fuchsia pink bracts in early summer. The flowers are followed by red for wildlife and persist into fall for additional garden interest. Grows 20-25 feet tall and wide.  Styrax japonica ‘Evening Light’ – A fabulous new variety of Japanese Snowbell that has purple to violet foliage! Dark are followed by a nice fragrant light pink to white in late spring – often blooming a bit in the fall as well. This is a tidy garden tree growing to 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide. An easy to grow NW tree.  Acer circinatum ‘Three Cheers’ - A new selection of our native Vine Maple with wonderful upright and tidy shape/structure. These easy-to-grow garden trees will now fit into a tighter spot for focal point/upright structure without all the side branching, growing 15 feet tall or so & only 6 feet wide.  Acer circinatum ‘Plum Passion’ – Newer native type Vine Maple with outstanding red fall color. It will have a nice mix of purple/burgundy foliage with green over summer – especially when planted in sun. Grows about 15’ tall and 8’ feet wide. Takes full sun or part shade.  Acer palmatum ‘Mini Maple’ - A new miniature seedling maple that is perfect for container growing and bonsai. This is a seedling discovered off of “Mikawa Yatsubusa” and is now available to home gardeners. I have had one in a pot for 7 years and it is barely a foot tall and wide with no pruning. Outstanding fall color, branch structure and count on 2-3 feet tall and wide long term, smaller in pots.  Acer palmatum ‘Radiant’ – Newer outstanding variegated Japanese Maple for gardeners. Consistent, stunning white/pink/green foliage color. Perfect for part shade to shade spots in the garden as a focal point or to use as a container specimen. Grows 10 feet tall by 6 feet wide with age.  Acer palmatum x pseudosieboldianum – The Jack Frost : Arctic Jade, Ice Dragon, and North Wind - Hybrid Japanese maples with all the color, structure and dependability of traditional maples with the added hardiness of 30 degrees below zero! Arctic Jade grows 20’ x 15’, had leaves like , and outstanding red/orange fall color. Ice Dragon grows like a lace specimen (10’ tall and 12’ wide), leafing out red/orange, turning green with excellent heat tolerance in summer, and then lighting up the fall with yellow/orange/red. North Wind is the hardiest of the bunch, growing 20’ x 15’ and offering bright orange/red color even through cold spells in the fall. Perennials/Vines

 West Country Series of Lupine – Three new flavors in the series: Blacksmith, Desert Sun, and Persian Slipper - These Lupines are simply amazing! Brilliant flowers in bicolor are sturdy and bloom a long time if deadheaded regularly. Blacksmith has deep purple/white flowers, Desert Sun is a bright sunny yellow, and Persian Slipper blooms a soft lavender/white flower. Great for pollinators!  Senecio ‘Angel Wings’ – New and exciting flavor of Dusty Miller! It has silky silver foliage and excellent texture to add in combination with other annuals and perennials. Offers a great container accent to use from spring through fall. Grows 12-18” tall and 12” wide. These are zone 8 so they will need some winter protection to keep year to year.  Heuchera ‘Plum Crazy’ – Do you have “Hechera-itis” like I do? Then there are always new ones for the garden to try! Plum Crazy is a cute little grower with dark purple base color mottled with silver highlights. The hummingbirds will also like the small sprays of white flowers. Grows 12” tall and 18” wide and likes full or part sun. Use in containers as well! Created by Trevor Cameron, C.P.H For Sunnyside Nursery (V.2018)  Euphorbia ‘Galaxy Glow’ – A new hardy Euphorbia flavor that emerges with pinkish foliage and fades into green. Flowers emerge greenish and turn a hot pink from early spring to summer. These drought tolerant beauties grow 2’ tall and 3’ wide.  Bergenia ‘Dragon Fly Angel Kiss’ – A fabulous new Bergenia that blooms pink in early spring, has glossy green summer foliage and turns a fiery red for the winter months. The blooms are also double flowers on short stalks that tend to not break. Use in Part Shade or Shade gardens for a low evergreen border perennial or utilize in containers as well.  Hakonechloa ‘Sun Flare’ – A newer flavor of Japanese Grass with stunning yellow base color and deep red tips. Grows 18” tall and wide and will spread and naturalize easily. Best in part shade or shade. Deciduous so no blades over winter.  Dianthus ‘American Pie Series’ – Great new fragrant old fashioned Dianthus with long stems and big ol’ blooms! Look for ‘Bumbleberry’, ‘Georgia Peach’, and ‘Key Lime’ this year. Unique colored blooms on a classic rockery perennial.  Campanula ‘Adansa Pink’ – Classic Campanula with extended bloom season. Easy to grow, forms nice clumps of foliage with small star shaped pink blooms on long stalks. Grows 12” tall and 24” wide and enjoys full sun or part sun along garden borders.  Erica ‘Eva Gold’ – Irish Heath flavor with bright magenta flowers from winter to early spring. Foliage is awesome on these – emerges bright yellow and matures to green over summer. Easy to grow and drought tolerant. Grows 2’ tall and 2’ wide.  Erysimum ‘Winter Party’ – This perennial has an extremely long blooming season, bloom coral/orange with pruple/rose with slight fragrance. Grows 18” tall and wide and likes good drainage in the garden in full or part sun.  Crocosmia ‘Diabolito’ – Monbretias like these are vivid bloomers that are great for attracting Hummingbirds and Pollinators. This is not ‘Lucifer’ - compact blades under 2’ and vivid red flowers. These naturalize easily and offer long summer bloom in the garden in full sun or part sun.  Agastache ‘Kudos Coral’ – A new addition to the Hyssop collection of varieties. Drought tolerant & long blooming these are perfect Hummingbird & Pollinator magnets! Use in the perennial garden with good drainage in full sun and enjoy a whole season of color. Compact growth to 18”.  Helleborus ‘Penny’s Pink’ – A new Hellebore with outstanding mottled evergreen mottled foliage and bright pink flowers in winter and spring. These are drought tolerant and easy to grow. Perfect in part shade and shade gardens for a pop of winter color. Grow 18” tall and 2’ wide.  Echinacea ‘Sombrero Sangrita’ – The newest additional to the Sombrero series of Coneflowers – perfect drought tolerant little compact summer blooming machines. Easy to grow with ruby red flowers all summer long, 18” tall and wide. them in mass or mix with other colors.  Salvias: ‘Ember Wish’, ‘Love and Wishes’, and ‘Pitcheri Azurea’ - These are summer blooming Salvias perfect for Hummingbirds in the garden. In the garden make sure they have good drainage to grow as perennial – otherwise use them like I do in containers for long season of color. Ember Wish is zone 8, coral color, and 3 to 4 feet tall. Love and Wishes blooms purplish pink, is zone 8, and grows 3 to 4 feet as well. Azurea is a pitcher sage, vivid blue, grows 3 to 5 feet tall and is zone 6.  Clematis ‘Boulevard Series’ – Outstanding new line of patio clematis perfect for growing in pots or in smaller spaces in the landscape. They offer a long season of bloom in a compact vine. Lots of colors out there but look a couple of new ones like ‘Daiyu’(dark pink) and ‘Nubia’(bright red). These will grow to a tidier 6’ in height or so and thrive in contianers. Edibles

 Actinidia ‘Sweet and Solo’ – A new Kiwi that is self-fertile and fuzzy! Needs full sun and will grow 15-20’. It will need some support or a structure to climb as Kiwi gets large with age! But now you don’t have to worry about the he vine and the she vine doing their thing  Vaccinium x ‘Native Blue’ - A cool new blueberry specie with bluish foliage and sweet dark berries to harvest in late summer. This one has cool foliage and bark a well – a bit like Manzanita to some extent. Grows 18” tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Best in sun and good for the birds!

Created by Trevor Cameron, C.P.H For Sunnyside Nursery (V.2018)  Vaccinium x ‘Razz’ – A blueberry that tasted like a Raspberry? Yep – here it is! This is a traditional Northern Highbush flavor that grows to 5 feet tall, ripens Mid-season and loves our acidic soils and moisture. This one just tastes like a Raspberry!

‘Pearly Twirly – A cool new Zone 7 from Dan Hinkley – the world plant hunter. It is a graceful upright shrub growing to 5’ or so with willowy foliage and cool little white flowers that sit on the foliage. Makes a great part shade woodland garden addition or could be used as a cool thriller plant in a shady container.  Hydrangea ‘Seaside Serenade Series’ – An awesome series of repeat blooming Hydrangeas that offer all summer bloom and east pruning in the winter. Both mophead and lacecap flower types are around now. Look for a number of them in the series like ‘Cape Cod’, Outer Banks’, ‘Cape May’, and ‘Hamptons’. All these grow in the 3 to 4 foot tall range and can be pruned hard each year as they all bloom on new growth! These make awesome summer blooming machines in the shade or part shade garden locations.  Hydrangea quercifolia ‘Jetstream’ – Newer Oak Leaf Hydrangea that is resistant to leaf spot. It blooms mid to late summer (opening white turning pink) and has outstanding fall color and peely winter bark. Grows about 5’ tall and 5’ wide and takes full sun or part shade.  Hydrangea macrophylla ‘Endless Summer Collection’ - Easy to grow re-blooming Hydrangeas that the collection continues to grow! There will be a new mini one out this summer/fall – watch for this reliable brand name and get some easy to grow Hydrangeas with all kinds of summer color.  Mahonia repens ‘Dark Star’ – Outstanding new creeping Oregon Grape flavor with dark purple foliage! Grows 18” tall by 4’ wide. Their yellow blooms in early spring are nectar magnets for Hummingbirds as well. These are awesome in any woodland garden and are drought tolerant once established. Watch for them late this year in the fall finally!  Litsea popuifolia ‘Asian Innocence’ – A relay cool foliage plant from Dan Hinkley and Monrovia with unbelievable fall color! Great structure and foliage are the hallmarks of this small tree growing 15’ tall by 10’ wide or so. A cool plant for the garden taking full sun to part shade.  Spiraea ‘Lil Flirt’ and ‘ Lil Sizzle’ - Two new bulletproof Spiraeas for the landscapes – these are repeat bloomers with nice foliage as well. Both grow about 3’ tall by 3’ wide and can easily be sheared back. Lil Flirt has red new foliage and a nice pink bloom, Lil Sizzle leafs out orangey and goes bright yellow in summer with pink bloom.  Spiraea japonica ‘Double Play Painted Lady’ - A new addition to the series with nice big double bloom in late spring and summer and clean foliage. This one adds nice variegated foliage for additional interest in the landscape.  Weigela florida ‘Golden Jackpot’ - New Weigela with bright golden foliage and scarlet/deep pink flowers in spring and summer. This one will not burn in the heat! Grows 4’ by 4’ or so and works well in any sunny location in the garden. Sweet foliage contrast on this one.  Distylium – ‘Linebacker’, ‘Cinnamon Girl’, and ‘Coppertone’ - Indestructible would be first thought about these! Great Laurel or Boxwood substitutes for hedging or use a filler plants as well. These evergreens bloom in late winter and have nice foliage color as well. ‘Linebacker’ grows 8’ x 8’, ‘Cinnamon Girl’ grows 3’ x 4’, and ‘Coppertone’ grows 4’ x 5’. These take clipping well and are adaptable to really any location in the garden –and the deer don’t like them!  Cornus alba ‘Neon Burst’ – A new truly stunning yellow foliage twig dogwood. Put your sunglasses on for this one! Bright red twigs in winter, with bright yellow foliage in spring and summer, and a kaleidoscope of purple, red and orange in the fall make this a year around interest plant. Grows 5’ tall x 5’ wide.  Viburnum plicatum ‘Opening Day’– A big old impressive shrub for height in the garden. Baseball sized flowers (white) come in early summer with the leaves turning bright red to purple in the fall. Grows 10’ tall by 8’ wide. Give these room to grow and mature into a beautiful large background shrub.

Created by Trevor Cameron, C.P.H For Sunnyside Nursery (V.2018)  Gardenia ‘Double Mint’ – This is a newer fragrant Gardenia is hardy in zone 7. Nice summer repeat bloom and outstanding fragrance. Grows well in full sun with good drainage and gets 3’ tall and 3’ wide. Feed them regularly to keep ‘em dark green and blooming.  Buddliea ‘Buzz Series’ – A new series of seedless old fashioned fragrant Butterfly Bush! Although now we call it “Nectar Bush” or “Summer Lilac”, it is still the same old fabulous butterfly magnet in the landscape. Available in magenta, dark and light blue, and purple. Easy to grow and offers a summer long feast of flowers!  Physocarpus opufolius ‘Ginger Wine’ - A promising new variety of Ninebark with superior mildew resistance. These boast cool peely bark, colorful amber to orange foliage, and nice fall color. This one will stay cleaner. Use in part sun to part shade for height and structure – grows 8 feet tall by 4-6 feet wide. Easy to prune as well!  Cotinus ‘Velveteeny’ and ‘Winecraft Black’ – A couple outstanding Smoke Trees. Velveteeny has nice purple foliage and a dwarf size – perfect for smaller yards and even container growing. Winecraft Black is the darkest one on the market with stunning dark black-purple leaves and regular full size growth habit.  Nandina ‘Bonfire’ – A new selection of Heavenly Bamboo with bright red foliage – especially over summer/fall/winter. Easy to grow in sun and useful as a foundation plant or shrub. Grows 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide with age and becomes very drought tolerant once established.  Callicarpa x ‘Pearl Glam’ – A new selection of the Japanese Beautyberry that not only offers the showy metallic purple berries each fall/winter but also has purplish foliage all season! Grows best in sun and will reach around 6 feet in height and 4 feet in spread.  Aronia melanocarpa ‘LoScape’ - A new introduction of choke cherry for the wildlife and bird lovers! This is a great low shrub/groundcover excellent for naturalizing like a native. These have year around interest – nice bloom, good set, and bright fall color. Grows 1-2 feet high and spreads to 2-3 feet. Roses

 At Last – A new and indestructible shrub rose with vivid orange blooms and fragrance. Superior disease resistance and ease of pruning are also a bonus with these roses. Grows 3 to feet tall and wide and use in full sun to part shade.  Rosie the Riveter – A fabulous new Floribunda Rose for the garden. Orangey/Gold blossoms and moderate fragrance on this easy to grow disease resistant rose. Grows 3 to 4 feet tall and wide. Rosie is sure to be a favorite around here for its color and ease in the landscape.  Top Gun – A new shrub rose with unbelievable disease resistance and immunity ro rose rosette virus – which is quickly becoming an issue in many parts of the country. Blooms bright red, easy to prune, and grows 3 to 4 feet tall and wide.  Frida Kahlo – This new one of kind rose has all kinds of colors mottled together! Reds, pinks. Golds – it is very unique and easy to grow. This is a Floribunda rose and has a nice mild fruity fragrance. Grows 3 to 4 feet tall and wide.  Easy Spirit – THE best white Floribunda rose on the market with superior disease resistance, good fragrance, and bright white flowers all summer long. Nice bushy habit to 4 feet tall and wide.  Parade Day – An outstanding new Grandiflora with fuchsia pink blooms striped with white for a unique bicolor effect. These have strong fragrance and are taller at about 5 feet tall in the garden. Good disease resistant foliage as well.  Knockout Coral and Rainbow – Good disease resistant shrub roses for landscape color without all the spraying and deadheading. Both grow 3-4 feet tall and wide and are extremely hardy.  Moonlight Romantica – Gorgeous yellow double old fashioned roses with heavy smell all summer! This classic Hybrid Tea type rose will grow about 5 feet tall and has excellent disease resistance.  Sweet Mademoiselle – Another classic Hybrid Tea rose for the landscape with vivid pink double old fashioned roses all summer long. Sweet Mademoiselle has heavy fragrance and disease resistant foliage
