Look at Diesel Boat Service *DoD* DoD 2014 Budget Update 05 ► CBO Provides Options for Congress As Congress negotiates a FY 2014 budget in hopes of avoiding another government shutdown, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a new report, "Options for Reducing the Deficit, 2014-2023" dated NOV 2013 that includes an array of spending cuts and revenue increasing options for FY 2014 and the beyond. Some of the options outlined in CBO's report would affect the American population at large, including: Raise the age of Medicare eligibility to 67 Increase Medicare Part B premiums for all beneficiaries 3 Raise the full retirement age and the earliest eligible age for Social Security Reduce Social Security benefits for new beneficiaries by 15 percent Change the COLA formula for adjusting Social Security benefits Others are aimed more specifically at military and veterans’ programs. We've identified some of the alternatives that CBO published in its budget-option package: Significantly reduce all services manpower Cap annual military pay raises at 0.5 percent below the average American's. ** Raise out-of-pocket costs for TRICARE-for-Life by up to $6,000 a year per married couple ** Dramatically raise TRICARE fees for beneficiaries under age 65 ** Bar working-age retirees and families from using TRICARE Prime Eliminate concurrent receipt of VA disability compensation and military retired pay ** Change the COLA formula for military and federal civilian retired pay and VA compensation ** Replace military personnel with civilians in certain positions (** Refer to DoD Benefit Cuts Update 24 for more details) Many of these proposals have been around for years, and have been rejected by Congress before. Others are new – most notably the proposal to end concurrent receipt of VA disability compensation and military retired pay for disabled military retirees. But in this political and budget environment, legislators pressed to come up with a budget package quickly may be disposed to simply grab some off-the-shelf options and worry about any potential consequences later. That means we could see some of these proposals surface in the next few months. The proposals to cut COLAs and raise TRICARE fees are ones to keep a particularly close eye on.     Statement from Merrill Newman dated December 9, 2013 Over the past two days, I've been able to reunite with my wonderful family, rest, and try to recover from the difficult ordeal that began when I was prevented from leaving North Korea on October 26th. I can't begin to tell you how good it is to be home, to be free, and to begin to resume my normal home life. Let me repeat my thanks to the U.S. State Department for the amazing job they did in getting me out of North Korea and bringing me home safely. I want to thank Vice President Biden, who called me in Beijing to wish me well and even offered to give me a lift back to the United States on his plane. Thanks also to the Swedish Embassy in Pyongyang for their great work, especially their visit to me and their help in ensuring that I had the medicine I needed. Let me also express deep appreciation to friends, family, members of the First Congregational Church, wonderful people of faith and from all walks of life, residents and staff of our home at Channing House, and Members of Congress for their prayers, vigils, hard work, and moral support on my behalf. I want to single out Evans Revere for his extraordinary help. It wasn't until I got home on Saturday that I realized what a story I had become in the press here. During my detention I had no access to any outside news, and wondered whether anyone was even aware of my situation.

First Wright brothers’ airplane patent, based on their 1902 glider, is filed in America. Aug. 8, 1903. The Langley gasoline engine model airplane is successfully launched from a catapult on a houseboat. Dec. 8, 1903. Second and last trial of the Langley airplane, piloted by Charles M. Manly, is wrecked in launching from a houseboat on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Dec. 17, 1903. At Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk, N.C., Orville Wright flies for about 12 seconds over a distance of 120 feet, achieving the world’s first manned, powered, sustained, and controlled flight in a heavier-than-air machine. The Wright brothers made four flights that day. On the last, Wilbur Wright flew for 59 seconds over a distance of 852 feet. (Three days earlier, Wilbur Wright had attempted the first powered flight, managing to cover 105 feet in 3.5 seconds, but he could not sustain or control the flight and crashed.)     MMEEDDAALL OOFF HHOONNOORR Presented to airmen of the US Air Force and its predecessor organizations This collection provides the citations for each of the 60 USAF airmen who have received the Medal of Honor. It also includes links to AIR FORCE Magazine articles about these individuals or the events in which they took part. They are arranged here in alphabetical order. AIR FORCE MAGAZINE'S HEROES COLLECTION MMEEDDAALL OOFF HHOONNOORR Presented to airmen of the US Air Force and its predecessor organizations The MOH is the highest and most prestigious US military medal. It is awarded by the President of the United States in the name of Congress, and for that reason it is often referred to as the Congressional Medal of Honor. (Congress awards its own medals of honor, the Congressional Gold Medal and Congressional Silver Medal—the nation's highest awards that do not involve combat). The Medal of Honor—whether the Air Force, Army, or Navy version—by law is only awarded for military action involving armed conflict. Specifically, the MOH may be awarded to members of the US Armed Forces who distinguish themselves conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of their lives above and beyond the call of duty under any of the following circumstances: 1. While engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States. 2. While engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force. 3. While serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party.

As youngsters we may have sorted our cards by number or favorite players. The kids on my block in the 50s played baseball dice games with their cards. Snake eyes, or a one and a one, was a homerun whether Ted Williams was batting or Ted Abernathy. Organizing the teams While the game didn’t make any statistical sense, it did make sense to us to have your “singles” organized by team, all ready to go for the dice games. The teams were kept current by checking the daily sports section for player transactions. If Enos Slaughter got traded to the Yankees, his card was promptly removed from the St. Louis Cardinals’ stack and moved to the Yanks. Sometimes we created cards for rookies not yet appearing on their own card or put the right uniforms on traded players by doctoring a duplicate of a similar-looking player. Minor leaguers, retirees, and deceased If a player went back to the minors, he went into a stack at the back of my card box. If I knew he had retired, he went into another stack. There weren’t too many deceased player cards, but they may have had their own section as well. Had I continued organizing and updating my cards from the 50s, I would now have no one with any team (unless you count those employed as goodwill ambassadors or spring training coaches).

Abstract Frozen Moments in the Interior Stadium: Style in Contemporary "Proseball" Crosby Hunt Writing about baseball has never been so popular as it is presently, causing one scholar to refer to "the current boom" in publishing. Most of the analysis of this body of work has centered on novels, but it is apparent that other forms of baseball writing are rhetorically as interesting as fiction. After summarizing some of the major critical works on baseball fiction, this study seeks to rectify certain omissions in the field of what Donald Hall calls "proseball." Included in this dissertation are studies of three player- autobiographies: Ted Williams * Mv Turn at Bat. Jim Brosnan’s The Long Season, and Jim Bouton*s Ball Four, in chapter two. Also covered, in chapter three, are essays by Roger Angell, John Updike, and Jonathan Schwartz, focusing on what Schwartz calls "frozen moments" in what Angell calls "the interior stadium." Chapter four provides an analysis of Don DeLillo's recent postmodern novella, Pafko at the Wall.
