Listen to Kebogiro : Build up of instruments

Task :

It is advisable to make sure that you are familiar with the names and sounds of the Gamelan Instruments before you attempt this task. You can do this by looking at the video clips of Gamelan instruments in section on Indonesian Music.

1. Listen to the piece as many times as it takes for you to be able to follow the form, and then answer the following questions :

a) In the first section (A1) of the first cycle, which group of instruments can you hear?

Highest : Peking and Saron

Middle : Demung

Lowest : Slenthem and Gongs (correct)

b) When are they joined by the next instruments? (Remember a cycle is a complete pass of all sections A1A2B1B2C )

They enter in the next complete cycle

They enter in the next section A2

They enter in section C

They enter in B2

They enter in B1 (Correct)

c) Which instrument does not appear in the first cycle?

Slenthem Gongs Bonang (Correct) Kenong

2. Listen carefully to the second cycle and answer the following questions.

a) In which section do the drums appear? A1 A2 B1 B2 C(Correct)

b) In which section does the Peking, or highest sounding instrument first appear?

A1 A2 B1(Correct) B2 C

3. Concentrate on the third cycle and answer the following :

a) In which section does the piece start to slow down?

A1 A2 B1 B2 C(Correct)

b) How does the piece end?

It fades out

There is a pause and then everybody plays the same note (Correct)

It just stops after Section C.
