LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Reckless Council meeting, gun violence To the Editor, Hi folks…First of all, local government. For those who watched, or read about the last City Council meeting: how reckless! When your only issue is cut taxes, I guess it is to be expected. BUT, as long as the private sector supplies govern- ment, and knowing that there is great profit to be made in doing so, the cost of government can and will only go up. Thus, the mandate is to generate greater revenue. With a lack of imagina- tion, or mind locked into certain, limited, thinking, we get stuck with conflict rather than develop and advance. The purpose of the City Council is come up with solutions, and to provide for the public good. Cutting many areas are a contradiction to that purpose. They should be pooling their smarts to do so. And, not trying to be heroes in their own minds. They frequently find a way to reject new businesses. And, it is out of the question to be innovative, and creative; a fundamental to the Human abil- ity to adapt and advance. Grandmother’s Garden Bridge repairs Recently the bridge at Grandmother’s Garden was vandalized. Barrels were thrown into the pond area and a section of rail- ing on one side of the walkway was broken off and pushed into the pond. Removal was impossible by the volunteers because of the length and weight of the handrail. The Garden board members and volunteers would like to thank Eric Forish and his company for taking on the project of removing the railing, cutting it up, and taking it away. The park and citizens are indebted to Forish Construction Company for their generosity. The bridge will have to remain closed until funding for repair and/or replacement can be generated. Grandmother’s Garden is open and free to the public. It is leased from the city and depends solely on volunteers for maintenance and upkeep receiving no funding from the city taxpayers.
