YWCA Extends Services to Support Women in Career Transitions Women’s Career Connection promotes networking, career-building skills

Cleveland – June 4, 2009 – The YWCA Greater Cleveland has developed a new program to support women in the community who have lost their jobs due to the challenging economic climate. The Women’s Career Connection kicks off on Wednesday, June 17th from 1:00-3:30 p.m. at the YWCA Women’s Center, 4019 Prospect Avenue.

The Women’s Career Connection is part of the YWCA Women’s Leadership Initiative, which, since its inception in 2004, has helped professional women advance further and faster up their career ladders. With the shift in Northeast Ohio’s economic climate, the YWCA is now focusing not just on advancing women, but also on supporting those who have found themselves unexpectedly in transition.

The Women’s Career Connection is an opportunity for women to network, support one another, and hear from various speakers on a variety of topics important to women seeking to secure a new position. These free meetings will take place every other Wednesday. As space is limited, registration will be required for each meeting. Those interested can register by calling (216) 881-6878 or e-mailing [email protected].

The YWCA Greater Cleveland is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. For more than 140 years, the YWCA has served children, women and families and today offers community service programs including domestic violence education, child care, life skills education for girls aging out of the foster care system and programs to help teens make positive life decisions. Other programs serving the YWCA mission include the Racial Inclusion Initiative, addressing the impact of racism in the workplace, and the Women’s Leadership Initiative to help professional women advance their careers.
