Attendees: Tamarah Begay Calandra Cook Savannah Gene Michele Pfeiffer Becca Rae David Sloan Ivan Shorty Tasha Tsinigine Dathan Tsosie Nathania Tsosie Lou Weller

Tamarah Begay, president called the meeting to order at 7:02 pm.

A representative from the Undergraduate Research Symposium talked about how to submit work into the symposium, what types of projects are being accepted and so forth.

Savannah Gene, secretary, gave an estimate of the balance in the UNM account (Over $1000). And Lou Weller gave a statement of the balance in the outside account, $310 after the deduction of the fee for the Indian Pueblo Culture Center.

Tamarah reminded the students that their dues need to be paid to the National organization, however new students do not have to pay including Nathania, Becca, and Savannah. The dues money will be paid to treasurer, Tasha Tsinigine.

There has been some discussion about getting T-shirts for the UNM SC-AICAE chapter, which was brought up by student members, Nathania and Dathan. They suggested that we could put our newly adopted logo on the t-shirt and can also be used as a recruiting tool. Michele Pfeiffer suggested a screen printer that is used by her office, and will get more information for that soon. Ivan and Savannah will also be attending a meeting with the Student Government Accounting Office to see how we can purchase these t-shirts through the UNM account.

Since the last Social outing was successful Tamarah asked if the students would like to have another bowling night. The students agreed on October 22, 2004 at 7 pm, Silva Lanes. This will help to create more interaction between our current members and could possibly attract more members.

David Sloan, National AICAE President, spoke about the upcoming National AICAE conference to be held at the Sheraton Uptown on November 18th-19th. Presentations will be scheduled for Thursday, and the Business meetings will be scheduled for Friday. Some presentations that are suggested are B.I.A. to report on projects, IHS Projects, Acoma Elder’s thoughts on development, Planning Development by Navajo spiritual leader, Visit Petroglyph Park and also a presentation by SAGE Counicl, Albuquerque Indian Center. UNM SC-AICAE will also do a presentation as required by the bylaws, and will also sponsor a Potluck/Student pin-up for Thursday evening.

For some time ASU has shown interest in creating a student chapter of AICAE, and they have requested the help from the UNM student chapter. There was discussion about possibly visiting the ASU students sometime in the spring to tell them about some of the events we have sponsored, and how we got started. This will be discussed more during the next meeting. Minutes of SC—AICAE Meeting 2 October 6, 2004

During the 2004-2005 Awards Banquet three UNM SC-AICAE Students were recognized for receiving the AICAE Scholarship. The students are Tamarah Begay (President), Ivan Shorty (Vice-President), and James Simermeyer. There were some suggestions brought up about fundraising during the National AICAE conference including a silent auction that could be held all day Thursday. This idea will be reserved for other events in which there will be more planning involved, the Fall Conference is much to soon to organize a silent auction.

The next meeting is scheduled for November 3, 2004, 7 pm in the Vassar Building.

Meeting adjourned at 8:18 pm.
